I've had the wabmodcheap serial setup for a long time now but I can't get SMG or SSBB to work because it detects burned disks.

I want to know if there is any way to get SMG or SSBB working.

If not, which other chip would be my best option.

I have a first day release wii (DMS chip)

Thanks

I did WAB ModCheap for a while... It worked all right for the time being, but IMO is more of a temp ghetto setup. If you managed to set that up, I'm sure you can handle installing a real modchip though, so I highly recommend you do that.

As far as which one?... You've got a few options....

1. YAOSM... Runs on a 12F629 PIC, so you'll need to buy the PIC and buy or build a programmer. It has full support for SMG and SSBB.
2. OpenWii... Runs on an ATMEGA8... Programmer is pretty easy to build, and total cost including chip and parts for the programmer is around $5... I know SMG works on OpenWii now, and I believe someone came out with a DL fix for SSBB recently as well.
3. Wiikey... You can make an exact Wiikey clone using the same chip and programmer as OpenWii. It will even work with their DVD upgrades... It is an exact clone. This currently has full support for SMG and SSBB.

And then there is of course the options of buying a chip like Cyclowiz, Wiikey, etc... But, if you have a WAB ModCheap setup you are probably cheap like me and wanna make it yourself. ;)

I'd personally go with OpenWii or homemade Wiikey. Currently in my Wii is a homemade Wiikey, but I go back and forth.

Awesome info.

I'm going with open wii because that's nice and cheap.

Thanks again

No probs. The great thing about OpenWii is that if you need/want to switch to Wiikey later, you can with the same hardware. Unfortunately the pinouts are different so it requires re-soldering, but... Still doable.
