Ok, so i got my Wii chipped with the WiiKey chip.
The whole soldering process went without problems, and we checked that everything recevied power after the soldering. My Wii starts up just fine, but when i was gonna update my WiiKey with a 1.9g ISO i found, it wouldnt read the disc i put in it.
Its a single layer DvD disc with only the ISO file in it.
So i am thinking; Maybe the chip didnt "take"
Is there any way of knowing if the chip is working or not without testing it with games?

This is more likeley to be a problem with the update disc.
The 1.9g update is used to play backups of Super Mario Galaxy (and possibly some other newer games). If you have a backup u want to use, then it should work as long as it doesn't need the update. You will then know whether or not it's hardware (chip), or the update disc.
If you need to update, try burning again. It may have been a bad or incorrect burn. You could also try burning a wiikey config disc which you will need to change region settings etc to see if that works. If you haven't already done so, it would be well worth your while to look at some guides to make sure you're doing everything correctly. There's loads about, just google for them.
Make sure you search these forum threads too. This question has probably already been answered at least once.

I recently got my Wiikey and wanted to know if there is any way to tell what firmware it has loaded on it or does the upgrade dvd let you know this.

You need to update your Wiikey first with Wiikey config disc 1.2b before you can put in 1.9g. This may not be possible though if your Wii is updated to V3.0E or above. You have to do it in stages.
What f/w is on the Wii ? Check in settings.
Also get a very early game to test the chip, most newer gams inc 1.9g update disc will not work unless you have updated your chip first.

Thanks for the answers guys.
I am using the WiiKey chip. I have checked, and it reads the copy of Wii Sports that game with the machine. This is the oldest game i have. It wont read any of the ISO files i have burned out though. I have burned out the update and the boot disc. A friend of mine said it might the DvD's i am using that might the problem, so i am getting some other DvD's tomorow and trying with those.

I recently got my Wiikey and I'm not sure what firmware version it has. I was wondering if the Wiikey is upgradeable to 1.9g on a 3.1U firmware Wii?

Have you tried booting any backups of old games? Warioware Smooth Moves for example. Anything like that.
I'm also confused by your use of language.

You are burning the image to the disc aren't you and not just the ISO file to the root of the disc?

That's what I thought so too. Darkfrog, are you sure you are burning the iso image to the dvd, not copying the actual .iso file with nero? Make sure that you burn at a low speed. I usually burn my games with ImgBurn (which is free, by the way) at 4X, DVD-R and I have had no problems so far. Some people like it even slower, 2X, but 4 works for me fine.

always test your chip install with a GAME not the setup/update disc.. those require GCOS etc.
Mediawise the wii is quite sensitive so stick to verbatim / tdk dvd-r's burnt at 4x

this is not true dude. a CONFIG disc does not update.. an UPDATE disc updates. And you can go to 1.9G directly from the oldest wiikey around. I went directly to G.
You just need to boot the 1.9G update disc up with GCOS @ 3.0 and above. This is because the headers are blocked by that firmware, but GCOS is not. GCOS is like a bootdisc for gamecube games, and since the wiikey updates run in gamecube mode they work with that.

Burn your discs at 4x and its recommended that you use Ritek G05 or Taiyo Yuden discs. I'm still having a bit of reading problems myself with Memorex +R dvds, so I ordered the Pioneer DVR-112D burner for less than $30 from Newegg that some recommend as being the best for burning Wii games.
