Alright. I've burned on multiple media types. (Over 6 types now) and I've finally ended up buying a Pioneer 112D (Which has been said to work on multiple forums several times) I burned on verbatims (the 2.4 to 8x made in singapore) as well as sonys, maxells, hps, and about everything I can get ahold of. I finally ended up using Memorex 2.4's. I run them (Realtime priority in IMGburn) and turn off all programs. Still get the 001 error. I've updated my wii to 1.9g multiple times, and am out of ideas. Anyone have anything? I'd really appreciate it.

EDIT: Also, I've confirmed the ISO is the correct DVD9 release, and installed the update to 100% so brick blocker and region free aren't an issue.

Have you tried to use the Config Disc rather than running RegionFrii on the disc? I've read on other boards people have had issues with running RegionFrii on the discs. Might I also recommend you burn the DVD-5 version of the game brickblocked and see if that loads?

Have you tried THIS (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=101093)method?

First of all you can burn dual layer wii games with any dl recorder. Pioneer112D autobitsets dvd+r dl to dvd-rom increasing compatibility but this is essential only for xbox360 games (and not for all the drives).

Secondly, if you ve burned your game correctly to verbatim discs dont spare your other brand dvds. If the game doesnt play with verbatim i really doubt that it ll play with other media.

Thirdly, if you ve updated your wii to 1.9g and you can play smg then there is no need to reupdate multiple times.

i ve found many reports about this game, many ppl say that it works with their wiikey, others say that they cant get it to work. See this thread here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/618029 read from page 40
and if you brickblock the iso use the latest brickblocker as it's the only version that works with this game

I had a lot of problems too, some of the same your are having

First: BURN using DVD9 (best you have) with ImageBurn (2.4x)
Second: Burn a copy of your Wiikey setup disc, load it and check if Region Override is turned on (this was my problem)

if your config disc won't run, then Region Override is turned off and you will have to burn a copy of GCOS and boot the config disc using GCOS's region lock.

Then your backup should work without a hitch...

Goodluck

After reading numerous threads, I finally caved it and gave SSBX a try. Below are the steps I performed and I did not run into any issues.

3.1U Wii firmware (I had 3.0U, so I updated using the system update)
1.9g WiiKey firmware

Ran RegionFrii on the DL copy of SSBX since I don't believe I have Region Free [ON] (I read default setting is off) on my WiiKey. After that I burned the DL iso using Memorex +R DL media on IMGBurn v2.4 at 2.4x speed.

I loaded the DL copy of SSBX on my Wii and allow it to run the system updates. After updates, your system will restart and you will see the dual channels.. I just moved the channels onto the next page so I wouldn't notice it. I ran the game and it worked fine.. I also tested out my other backup games and original and did not find any problem.

Good Luck

Good Luck

I have 3.1U - Wiikey 1.9G working without dual channels.

I did it this way:-

1) Made two copied images of the DL version and applied the latest DL support Brickblocker to one of the images and left the other one untouched.

"NO NEED FOR REGIONFRII"

2) Burnt both discs @ 2.4x using verbatims via Imgburn. Made sure Region Override was ON.

3) Booted the unpatched disc and let it update to 15% (update bar around 3 blocks complete) then pulled the power cord. This is to apply the update to boot the game. If you leave it till the end, you will get DUPE channels.

4) I put the power cord back in and let it boot to the front-end. Inserted, the brickblocked disc, which then booted fine without no issues or problems with dupe channels.

You can however, make dvd 5 disc instead of wasting a DL disc, as the unpatched disc is no longer needed once you have applied the update.

Hi Dunno if this helps but i had exactly the same problem,
I've got wiikey updated to 1.9g and updated my wii firmware to latest
i burned the dvd9 to a Dual layer disc, tried to play it but the 001 error always popped up.....
....then i changed the speed of the burn to 4x
changed the drive seed with wiikey utils to 4x
and hey presto it bloody well worked!
didn't use verbatim discs either I used an 'AONE'

so the wiikey now works for smash brothers?

The Wiikey has always worked with Smash Brothers (J), dual layer and single layer version.
