View Full Version : Is it still worth getting a modchip?

Dont shoot me; I've been lurking for 2 years :o.

After reading about the Twilight Hack and the non-functioning Pong game, I was wondering if it is still worth getting a modchip. Will we see softmods in the feature, or isoloaders? As far as I know, those softmods will be easier to detect by Big N, right?

I've been reading and searching threads about modchips but came to the obvious conclusion that there is no best one, it all boils down to your own preference:

WiiKey's site is down, altough they do seem to support their chip;
CycloWiz's last update was released in July, 2007 according to their website; YAOSM is probably too hard for me (I don't have any experience programming or building a PIC Chip);
YoWii seems to be the same as the YAOSM chip but more noob friendly, altough I haven't found any reviews on it).

Any thoughts? Much appreciated!

If i would have a nonmodded wii on this moment, i would just wait how things are going on the exploit,you still can get a modchip later on.Also i would not upgrade anymore till is known if it can and will be bloked out by nintento.

That's exactly what I'm doing, waiting to see what happens. If it turns out there's no softmod some sort of custom firmware on the way, then get a chip, by which time hopefully you will be able to find the one you want (CycloWiz for me).

one thing to consider - the real lack of onboard storage for the wii. unless an iso loader comes around that loads isos over the lan... a homebrew iso loader will be mostly pointless.

im pretty sure they would make it load from a dvd.

why wait, get a modchip, only reason to wait is if you cant solider.

I've chipped my XBOX and PS2 all by myself which was quite easy, so yeah I got some experience.. I'll think about it. Before I decide to order a modchip, I need to decide what I should order..

Hopefully you could run iso's from a USB HDD

1 reason why you SHOULD get a modchip now.

Brawl.

theres still 24 or so days before american release. isn't it worth playing it before the rest of america? :D

if you want, i have a unused cyclowiz for sale. $45 shipped with switch. (these are sold out everywhere so i had to spend $74 on a sweden site).

Yasom is not that bad once you build the programmer, dam the diagram is printed on the board lol. And the programing face is simple with the guide from the thread "Yasom from scratch". I'm going to mod my wii to avoid spending 50-60 bucks every time I go "Woo i want that game". This happens with frequency lol:rolleyes:

If I knew everything that I know now, when I modded my Wii (April last year) I would have probably gone Cyclowiz or possibly yaosm. But I have Wiikey. Oh well, I can't complain since it works just fine.

Or would have done an external mod chip install and been able to do all three if you wanted to :)
