Hi details of rig
Japanese wii,
latest firmware
wii key latest stuff (something g)
Am trying to run the 7.2 gig version of SSBB. Burn went fine.
Installed the update. Which should be no problem seeing as the wii is Japanese
Disc channel loads the disc
http://turps.nastyhobbit.org/Temp/so-close-so%20far.jpg as seen here
however when I click start I get this error
http://turps.nastyhobbit.org/Temp/erorr-code.jpg
Translates as
"Error code 001 Unknown device found"
Is this the wii key? I was under the impression it could not be found
Anyone with more info or am I soundly boned?
Heads up bought the real deal game on the day it came out (live in Japan) however the disc can't be read
Do I have to wait for an update from wii key team?
Any information is greatly appreciated

As funny as it may sound wiikey will play the backup of the game but not the original. D2Ckey, which I have, will play the original but not the backup. So yes, you'll have to wait for the wiikey team to come up with an update.
What part of Japan do you live now? I live in Ise-shi, Mie prefecture.

reupdated to the latest firmware for wii key 1.9G and it loaded past the error code once then had a disc error. After that I couldn't get it to load past the 001 error code again

As I said, you can't play the original game disc with wiikey. You'll either have to wait for the wiikey official update or get yourself the Caravan release of the game for the double layer disc. Or just disconnect your wiikey.

SOrry I must have not been clear in my previous post (actully I wasn't re-reading it)
I have the caravan dual layer release
but am getting error code 001
in addition I also have the official version. However I know this will not work. Thanks for clearing that up.
I managed to get the Caravan release to load once, I suspect the TDK disc is of not high enough quality and it is also a DVD-R DL. So I am going to try a DVD + R DL Vibretiam (spelling) disc this afternoon after work
Will see if that fixes things.
Anyone else had this experience?

Just get the DVD5 version aswell by INTERNAL WII-TMD boot it with that one, load it till the menu or warning screen which suits you best. Then swap with the dual layer

Hi dunno if this helps but i kept getting the error 001 message
Pal wii (latest firmaware) with wiikey (latest 1.9g)
Anyway thought maybe there was something wrong with my wii
tried changing drive speed to 3x
still no luck
BUT i re-burned the DL DVD at 3X speed (slower than first burn)
And it bloody worked! I was shocked and amazed
didn't use special make DL DVD either
it's one called AONE
Hope this helps!

Yes slowing down the read speed may give the laser a better chance at reading the disc. Try opening up your wii and giving the lense a clean with metho or an alco wipe to clean it off. You can probably wack it back up to 6 X speed.
Fail that the media your using might be too poor to be read at 6X
From what I have worked out
001 error and the Japanese that comes up means the wii can't read the disc
there are 3 factors that lead to this
1. Media type and quality
2. Burner quality
3. Wii lens quality
If your other games run fairly well than 3 is unlikely but not entirely impossible as this is the first DL game.
If your burner is more than about 2 years old the DL quality it's burning might be no good, also not terribly likely.
Number 1 is most probably your issue.
I fixed the problem by switching to a DVD + R DL disc
in my small town I couldn't find the really high quality ones so I just got the most pricey one I could (a brand called victor, I doubt it exists outside Japan).
Try switching media and using a + R DL disc
verbatimif you can get it. Made in Singapore is apparently the best
Thanks for all the help everyone
I have smashies to attend to!
