Amazon has sold out on a spectacular deal for the Xbox 360 HD DVD add on for $79.99. It came with free shipping and with the 6 free HD DVDs via mail-in offer. The offer sold out in a short time and the price has gone back up to $179.99.

it's not that it sold out, they just second thoughts and later put the prices back up. They are losing money either way so...pfffttt they should just take them all back to the warehouse and make BD players instead

MS should take the hint and drop the price to 80$ so amazon can follow. its just an HD-DVD drive and i believe ive seen those priced at about 60-70 in produciton costs.

Well, HD had a good run. I think that it surprised more people and studios that it lasted as long as it did. And Had Warner not been bought off to the Blue Ray camp. I have no doubt that this war would still be going full throttle. And had MS put the damn HD drive in there 360's to begin with. HD probably would have won the war or at least close anyway.

Either way, I'm kind of disappointed that the war didn't go on longer, if only for the reason that it was forcing Sony and Samsung to lower there Blu-ray player prices a lot faster then I'm sure they anticipated. Now, that they are 80% winner, they will no longer feel the need to be competitive, so the hopes of seeing a $150 to $200 blu-ray player anytime soon is a little bleak. But you never know.
