  • Sony slams critics, complains no one calls MW 2 a copy cat

Speaking to IGN, Shu Yoshida responded to critics who claimed that Move games have all been done before on the Wii. He asked does anyone criticize Modern Warfare despite there being loads of shooter games out there? He concluded by noting Sony is advancing the genre with different types of games.

IGN: Sounds good. So this one is a bit critical. You're going to have gamers out there who say that you showed off your first titles -- ping-pong, archery, sword-fighting, boxing -- and that they aren't different from the games we've seen on Wii already. What do you say to critics who claim these games have been done before?

Shu Yoshida: There are many, many shooters out there. Do you criticize any company making, you know, Modern Warfare? Right? You know, a boxing game with a new control scheme -- if you feel much more into the game, the immersiveness, the game should exist. We're talking about advancing the genre with different types of games.

completely different considering one is a genre. one of the main reasons I bet they are getting slammed isn't because of the idea of the move but the fact it is a cloned design, minus the extremely odd globe.

I have to agree with the critics. releasing games that are just copies of what nintendo had 4 years ago isn't advancing anything. but at least sony did show new stuff as well like socom4 eyepet so not all of it was just wii sports in HD

It doesn't help when Sony pretends this is something new, They may have enhanced the Wiimote/Nunchuck but they're practically telling everyone that they thought of it first, its the most innovative thing they've ever done and they're the best company in the world...

i am interested but cmon you have to prove yourself with more than pre-alpha games/more hardcore games, Many criticised the Wiimote when it appeared (most of all Sony and MS) look at it now.

different types of games? no. they are the same, they just play on ps3.

and why compare to mw2? wasnt that one of the highest selling games for ps3? maybe they shouldnt slam something that brings sony so much money.

cod series in general has been one of the most successful series in the genre... ps3 move has yet to prove itself. maybe if move can beat wii (hahahahaha) sony can slam people, until then stfu and get over people are being let down by move cuz they see its just a wii clone.

Sony comes late to the party and after mocking the host they want to act like they own the place.

I'm not psychologist, but seems to me that making this type of excuse means that they are fully aware of the situation... I actually had doubts as to whether they actually believed what they were saying, so it's a bit of a relief to know they are really just liars, as opposed to total idiots; well they are idiots too... just not so much that they would actually believe that Move is anything truly different.

I don't know why it's so hard to come out with an honest answer: "We feel Move is an improvement over the Wiimote, while nintendo pioneered the technology, we feel very confident we have done a great job of improving on some of their ideas. I assure you that the games we have lined up will validate our faith in our product" Needless to say there's a few lies/spins in that statement too, but then again I know they can't very well be 100% honest. Still, that's isn't as bad as the crap that they spew on a regular basis, and I don't think that many people will feel that theiir intellect is being questioned.

... Not that he isn't right about 1000 FPS being the same crap, the same can be said for many other genres, but it's embarrassing that they are pointing fingers at others to justify what they're doing.

      Yoshida must be nuts.

Sony's three years behind on this motion control stuff. That means they've had three years to come up with something that blows Nintendo's tech away. And they didn't.

The technology might be more advanced. But if the only thing they can think to do with it is to to let me play ping pong or use it like a light gun (things we can already do just fine on the Wii), then what the hell is the point?

Knowing Sony, they'll come up with a game that demonstrates how much better their controls are and it'll be some game you'd never want to play. Like "Plunge the Toilet."

I can hear Yoshida now: "The Wii's controls could never replicate the sophisticated plunging motions required by this game. But with Playstation Move, you can clear that toilet of that nasty log in no time!"

I stayed up to watch the conference, and was amazed at the flustercuck of a reveal. I hope MS learn from this and show us some actual content at E3.

I have a feeling a lot of us will be returning to PC gaming very soon, on that subject; Civ V looks pure class.

You think MW2 was a major part in the PS3's money-making? wow.

GT5:Prologue on its own sold almost DOUBLE what MW2 brought in.

someone at sony kind of missed the point, mw2 is from the same company that made mw1, sonys poor wii remote / nunchuck copy is a copy of an original(ish) product from another company there is a world of difference, it could also be argued (but not by me) that mw2 was an improvement over mw1 whereas the move is at best a 4 -5 year late equal, after all as i've said before, if the wii remote ( with m+) offers 1:1 with no lag then how could anything that claims to offer the same thing be considered an improvement especialy when it doesnt have things like vibrate, a speaker or even a pointer / gun system built in.

Good points. I really have liked the speaker on the Wii remote. Multiplayer alerts are nice in turn based games and No More Heroes's phone calls were cool.

The big areas where Sony can improve on the Wii are button layout and the nunchuck design.

I've watched a few videos of the Move and that orb looks really bright. Does it have to stay that bright to work?

So if I have a PS3, 360 and Wii, how am I supposed to stack all this stuff on top the TV?

u have a huge contradiction. if Move is like wiimote ( which i think it is. but its alot better),

all fps games are fps so they r all rip off.

and "ipod touch" and touch screen laptop same ****

and Natal and ps eye same sh*t.

MW2 and other fps? wuts diff? many tiny technical differences making a huge difference in gameplay

so if u r going to protect mw2, dont appply opposite logic and Sh* for Move.

It has to. -- How do you think a silly webcam called the EyeToy can track your movements with the Move.

By watching the bright colored lightblub moving! -- If you are in bright lit room, it needs to be bright for a silly webcam to pick it up, and it auto-changes color to match a color which is NOT in your current room layout.

No playing the Move in a dance bar with moving strobing lights. -- Or in my shop with my big windows facing a busy corner street, with tons of moving objects with all different cycle of various colors!
