View Full Version : Rumor: Could dispute mean Gamestop stops selling the 360?

There had been reports that Microsoft is refusing to take responsibility of its defective Xbox 360 consoles, leaving EB Australia with $10 million worth of defective machines. However this has now fueled rumors that the dispute could lead to Gamestop and EB Games to stop selling the Xbox 360 altogether. It sounds very unlikely though. However Gamestop is now no longer offering warranties beyond the 30 Day manufacturer warranty so that they are no longer responsible for faulty machines.

That would never happen. What we need to know is what the agreement is between MS and Gamestop/EB Games. I know that the buyer has a 3 year warranty but that doesn't mean that the stores can gather up a bunch of them and mail them in.

shouldnt EB be held responsible for their own warranties?? ie a contracted repair facility of their own?? instead of billing for extended warranty and sending to m$ for free

i first and foremost don't believe the rumor that there are that many systems waiting to be returned in the outback. 10,000,000 worth of systems at roughly 400 a pop is 25000 systems, what were the stores doing stocking defective systems and waiting for one day to send them all back? eb/gamestop aren't going to stop selling squat, there company isn't in the best of shapes and to deny the sale of one of the 3 current gen systems that is selling well 2 years after launch isn't in there best interest. if eb stopped stocking the system they may as well shut there doors because these days gamers are buying there stuff from any store that isn't eb/gamestop

If a store is offering extended warranties, then it is there responsibility to refurdish them, not MS, Sony's, or Nintendo's. All retailers are instructed to have the owner return defective units, not the store.

"However Gamestop is now no longer offering warranties beyond the 30 Day manufacturer warranty so that they are no longer responsible for faulty machines."

Now no longer? They haven't offered this for over 6 months now.

yeah I think your right. Its one thing that if they received a faulty batch of 360s. Though if they are selling their warrentys and giving them a new system why exactly should they be able to get them all repaired for free and keep all that warrenty money.

Either way you suck gamestop

its bad enough wasting their staff time dealing with the massive number of defective console returns let alone getting stuck with them.

ban defective products & sell quality hardware = MONEY & all parties happy. ;)

except the fact that the "defective 360" has the HIGHEST attach rate of all current gen console's let alone history, and that is a large amount of profit for any retailer just like the console companies....hardware doesnt profit near as much as software....so just like the above poster EB might as well go out of business if they dont want the high attach rate

edit : personally i HATE eb/gamestop so i could care less if they went bankrupt

It's possible they could stop sales of the console , They don't generate a great deal of profit from it anyway , the money is made with the software.

the warranty is basically 100$ for them to package the console and send it in for you.

Why should MS making a console like complete **** and constantly breaking become Gamestop/EB responsibility? I wouldn't want you throwing that **** on my lap while I have to give you a brand new console and MS gives it to me up the tailpipe.

Just do what has been needed from the start. Tell MS to learn how to fucking make something right.

All you stupid fanboys need to open your eyes, join us in reality and drop that **** like a bad habit. That way those same great games move over to a console that is very well built and worth your money.

Unless of course you enjoy buying trash? As I have noticed many of my completely moronic American comrades do each and every day.

Why dont you just put that tired lame line in your freakin tag and be done with it. A year ago you were actually somewhat level headed but more and more your starting to sound like Satels sister.

Why does it bother you so much that others enjoy their 360's? Your constant admonition for a console you dont even own is getting rather sad it comes across as like a child worried you made the wrong console choice. Play what you want and dont worry about everyone else. We're all really happy that you enjoy your PS3, found lair to be your game of the year and whatever but there are plenty of people who are either disappointed with or find the ps3 to be just another console in the mix.

BTW try reading the freaking articles once in a while...the thread had nothing to do with 3rod to start with it had to do with a bad decsion by EB Au regarding a shipment with a bad batch of drives...of course reading the actual article would have denied you the opportunity for your daily childish fanboy battlecry.

When they are open. The one near me is always closed because someone was to high to come to work or something. Plus they don't have many PC games.

It's not about others. Who cares about you or other people enjoy. If you and others like XBOX 360, then go play to your heart content. :P

It's about MS fault for creating such defective machine that causes problem and drag innocent retailers and customers into this mess.

Glad I bought both my Elite and Pro at Best Buy where they provide a 2 year warranty for the price of a game.($60.00) It doesn't matter what the problem is be it 3RLoD or DRE. You bring it in, give them your info, you get to go to the 360 section and pick out any new one you want.

I love it when the middleman gets screwed:D Your crazy if you buy high priced items from Gamestop. I hear Costco or online retailers like Newegg and Amazon are very reliable with returning faulty hardware (Every single 360 ever made:mad: ).

Well, to be honest you are no better yourself.

I am not talking about the PS3 either, you are drawing your own assumptions. Show me the part where I was talking about it? Fanboy? Maybe just your fanboy instincts... getting a bit protective? Whatever the case may be, I could really care less.

PS3, Wii, whatever it may be. It is easy to understand that it would be nice to have a reliable system that can house all these games.

I used a 360 first hand at my little cousins house this Christmas. He was watching his Dragonball Z Brolli movie DVD. Of course he moved the thing a bi t and I heard this nasty grinding noise from the DVD Drive.

You can guess from there, his DVD isn't working. I guess his parents made a smart purchase for their kid huh? Even my PS1 discs are fine when I move the console. So don't come in here with this **** pal, you know as well as I do the 360 is made like trash. No effort went into this thing and the fact that it has been over 2 years now without so much as a noticable improvement is enough to warrant me bitching about it, and the fact you think it is perfectly fine to have to send in a console time and time again because you have some stupid warranty makes you look like more of a fool than me.

Maybe some of us like the games on Xbox, sure your entitled to your opinion but stereotyping is slander.

Its like me saying: "Can't sony stop making people pay for crap they dont need?"

I appreciate your "Concern" on this subject but quite alot of people are happy with their Xbox's, I agree there is an on going issue with them with all the faults, but at the end of the day its personal preference or budget.

Wow, that's pretty shady of EB to sell their inflated warranties, then expects Microsoft to foot the bill for the repairs, meanwhile EB loses nothing and in fact gets to pocket 100%, screw them, they been ripping people off far to long, can't wait to see them have to start closing doors on these glorified pawn shops.

You must've been talking about the PS3, since none of the 360 games that would "theoretically" go to other systems would be able to run on the shitty Wii.

And what's this bullshit about there being no noticeable improvements to the 360? They've switched to quieter, more energy-efficient boards twice now, not to mention the change in the 65nm process they now have. The RROD as we knew it is next to extinct in the falcon consoles, and now has a comparable defective rate to the PS3 or Wii.
