View Full Version : EA to Fox: Thanks, but no thanks
EA VP of Communications Jeff Brown has made a statement in response to Fox's invitation to Ea to appear on the Live Desk with Martha MacCallum to discuss Mass Effect. Brown said "there's no interest here in another debate with an 'expert' that will say anything to sell a book. They need to step up and correct the record."

Gamers and industry pundits would seem to agree. Many have said that Fox has to simply issue their own correction and make their viewers aware of what Mass Effect is really about. If someone from EA goes on television and they're treated in the same abrupt, condescending manner that Geoff Keighley was, then that serves no purpose and only stirs the pot further. That said, if a member of EA is actually allowed to speak at some length about Mass Effect and the growth of games as medium, then it could do some good, we believe.

I'm so glad they didn't say yes. It is just another opportunity for FOX to babble on about their normal BS.
Not to mention, that is a great response...:D

Ok, I'm a little confused, does EA now own the rights to Mass Effect? And if so when did they get said rights? It was definitely published by Microsoft and I thought that would leave them as proprietor of the Intellectual Property...

I am pretty sure it is owned by EA. I heard talks of Mass Effect 2 being on the PS3 and possibly Mass Effect being ported sometime in the future as well.

EA did the right thing by refusing to be drawn into defending it on tv. Fox would have ambushed them and pushed their point of view, regardless of the truth of the matter. Look at what they did to Geoff Keighley.

By ea buying bioware. AFAIK ms still owns all the rights to the mass effect name and games so porting is unlikely if not impossible.

its good that EA said no. For the same reason that "expert" is in quotes, because if they go live on TV with some uneducated whack-job they will be cut off and neglected of reason

The company who make mass effect was bought by EA last year, but only got the sale through this month so thats why it was not an EA published at the time mass effect was released. But is why they now defend it as they own the developer.
I think EA have done the best thing here as they are not going to be that media savvy and could be made to look worse.

I know that EA bought Bioware a while back, but I was under the same impression that AceMilo is under, that Microsoft, being the original publisher was the owner of the Mass Effect IP. I don't know how EA can own it when they didn't even put up the money for the development of the game...

I didn't mean that they own the game, they own the developer so will defend its work past and present is what I was trying to say.

Yes since bioware made the game and ea now owns bioware, it makes sense for them to defend it. Microsoft didn't make the game, they only published it, you don't attack the publisher of a book you disagree with, you go after the author. If a lawsuit was involved with this or any other game then you would probably see the publisher get involved.

Adam Sessler may come across as a douchbag upon seeing him the first time, but damn that guy is really well spoken. He said that perfectly.
As far as the issue goes, EA says most of the time Fox "gets it". Yeah, they get it all right..they get it wrong. Fox is the shittiest network on tv. They fucked Family guy, they fucked Futurama, They **** up every major sporting event on their network. Screw fox.
