I've just seen a beautiful thing... while you play, if you open the disc, and then you close it after some second, you can continue playing without problem... That's a very good thing because gcos (1.4) didn't allow you to do that, and i with this feature, you can even change the multi game disc from disc one to disc two when needed.
Now, if you got a dre, even if you open and close the lid, nothing happened...but why?? i think probably because it's not the qoob that manage the dre..? I don't know...but if someone found a way to make qoob think that's the dre was only a open of the lid, you just open and close, and the gamecube read another time the disc and probably will not have anymore the dre! You think it will work?
My english is not so good, hope you understood :)

With the default Qoob settings, the Qoob already tries to read it multiple times befre actually giving the DRE.

But, if after try multiple times, it would make gamecube think that you open the lid, probably after the dre would not be given! Or else the dre will every time comes again if it alredy try to read multiple time! Instead there are some random dre that are not caused by a bad write or part of the disc not readable! :o

Qoob Already have a "All workaroudn" to avoid DRE, even when u get those smaller "freezes" on the videos ( generally are those annoying "stops" like on mario tennis, mayeb is the mini DVD quality also ), they are different from those Freezes + noise countinusly sound. I am very satisfied with the DRE workaroudn on Qoob already, consdiering GC laser dont allow any ( any ) DRE originally the Qoob Team included a great "miracle "tool. I hope still theree is room for development. I still didnt get the option "5x" on DRE workaroudn..whtat s the difference from "All"?

And....what is DRE ? Look guys, i burned a few isos today and when i make
disk check with Qoob Pro, all of them give me errors, the original games give me errors at 00000000000, and the backups a few numbers ahead. Whats that? They WORK, but sometimes they cost me to enter, i have most problems with Bomberman Generation, Soul Calibur 2, Pokémon Colosseum, and Wind Waker doesnt even enter..sometimes this games i talk COSTS a LOT to start even in the Qoob BIOS!
I use TDK DvD-R 4,7GB and i burn them at 2x ....my default laser value in ohms is 130...i didnt touch in it, that's a factory value!
Help me guys!

My factory POD was around 230...I heard on the beggining they where much high ( 500 -600 ). Well DRE ( Data Read Errors ) are small fails on the disk or even at the original ISO. There are many factors involving errors. For example I Tried many different media for my GC to fix that. Here on Turkey I jsut can t find Ritek, so I started to test the ones at hand. Some games runs very good, and smooth but testing with the Qoob tool they through randoms errors.
Recently I discovered that Mini DVD-R from "Iomega" are high quality brand here, I am using them , and guess what? they pass clean at the DRE test on GC, every single one. Also I adjsuted my POD to 175, recommend values is around 170-210, so my default value was very near, ( I dont know why.. Maybe Nintendo is helping us..). Erros that I can t help are those from the ISO itself, those are hard, you can burn a perfect Iso but if the original backup is not a copy 1:1, for some tiny thigns, on some parts of the game you will get freezes.
At "Mod that Cube"(http://modthatcube.pxn-os.com/) you can find a guide how to rebuild an ISO. Just an example I downloaded Pickmin 2, two times on a row, I burned and tested there are "0" errors , clean as Qoob says, but the Intro freezes at certain point with a continuos noise, at the same point exactly. That can t be helped, but the game itself doesnt freezes, pressing start goes forward. I didnt try to fix the Iso. First I wanted to know if thsoe "freezes" can be fixed or not.
I suggest try to find different media and test them with same Iso to have a reference about DRE, I did with mario tennis & starfox assault ( they were very "sensible" ones tor ead, many video stops, not loading etc ), until I found the one that fits my GC the most. Now they go smooth.

And one more thign..soem branch have different soruces ( fabrics ) so they jsut print over the trademark , so what you msut do is to find the most suitable emdia for your Game cueb through trial-error. I did with Iomega but doesnt eman any Iomega works for me, soem series are very bad, I look insdie the disc for the hologram signature adn compare , once I bought 40 of them and 80 % were bad quality, not for data but for game cube, so I started to look for the ones with similar signatures to find good sources. as I say, buy 2 of every trade mark, test them with hard ISO s. DRE usually happens and we msut live with them, I have games runnign soft but someones shows DRE at chekiing, doesnt means the games wont run, mayeb the DRE can be at some "garbage "too. Well , thats the prcie we pay for play "back ups". originals are always best choice. I still buy originals when I like the games so much.

When DRE workaround is ON you should not get any message saying that a disc read error occured, instead the game should "freeze" while qoob retries to read that data. On bios 1.3a and previous bios did not work on my GC very well causing to give me DREs all the time, and with DRE workaround ON it just fucked up the the games, so I turned it of and when the error occured I could do like you said: open and close the GC so the the game continues. But my problem was solved since bios 1.3b4, but I keept playing with DRE workaround off just to test. The media I used is pretty good so only like once in week I got DRE and I noticed the the open and close did not work anymore.
But the optimal solution is not open and close GC to continue the game, instead you should let the DRE workaround do its job. But if you did not turn off the DRE workaround I believe I know why it is not working.
Here is what I noticed: when you reset the GC using the reset button on it, it is like the Qoob turns itself off so the DRE workaround gets off and L+R+Start gets off, and probably disc swap gets off too.
So what I mean is that maybe when you get a DRE is because in some point before you reseted the game using the GC button. So I recomend that you instead try to reset the game (or do not reset the game at all) by pressing the L+R+Start and you probably will not have any DRE messages any more.
But if your disc has some data that is unreadable it will just freeze when it tries do to read that data (because it will not stop trying to read it until it is successful).
What you are saying it happens to me to.. so, ill try those Mini DVD-R from "Iomega" !! But first i need to find them here in portugal...lol ! Ill adjust my laser to 180 right now to see if i notice diferences!
Here in Brazil, the best mini DVD brand that you can find is Dotcom. They are really good. They just give really rare DREs, like once in a week playing all day every day and the media check is always successful. I do not know if you also can find them in Portugal, but if you do, I recommend them.
But BE CAREFUL. It is not all mini DVD Dotcom that are good. Only the 2x ones are good. The media code of the 2x ones is AML. If you look the hologram under it, it will be written 4M041. There is another one that is 4x that do not work well (the media check almost always fails) but they work with DRE workaround on (but on video you will notice some freezes because of it). The media code of this 4x ones is OPTODISCR004, and the hologram shows OTC-R84003W8 R004.
Boa sorte encontrando uma boa mídia.
