View Full Version : Over 200 Blu-ray disc titles discounted, some as low as $14.99
Amazon has cut the price of over 200 Blu-ray disc titles, with some as low $14.99. Titles reduced include Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Ratatouille, and Superbad. It seems as though Amazon are hoping consumers will build on their Blu-ray library after news of Warners decision to exclusively back Blu-ray.

With the price of HD media nearing DVD media , Blu-Ray will effectivley replace the DVD within the next 3 years.
And stop with the digital media arguments ,that's years if not a decade away.
HD-DVD price cuts too, just snapped up 13th District for $14.99 :)

i went to amazon online yesterday and ordered about 10 more blu-ray movies, should be here monday according to my confirmation email. i even found a couple at $13.95.
hopefully the prices will continue to fall. amazon is the cheapest place online i've found for bd movies, even cheaper than walmart online and far far cheaper than dvd empire.com
if the prices keep falling, i'll order the hell out of some bd movies, it's far cheaper to purchase them right now than it is to 'back them up'.
i've spent over $250 on bd movies in the last two weeks alone, but i enjoy sitting down and watching a good movie, especially if it's in hd and the picture and sound just draws you in. i can even tolerate a bad movie with great picture and sound, i guess it's kind of like doing an ugly girl with a great body.

When Blu Ray players can be bought for $30 down the local flea market THATS when they might overtake DVD and thats not going to happen any time soon.

heh heh, you can say that again. the thought of staring at a gorgeous girl from behind, then having her turn around and you see that she has snakes for hair and then you turn to stone from looking straight at her. :)
but that's why they make bags, just slip it over her head, make sure it's not a plastic lawn bag that ties at the bottom, but that would be a good way to keep her from telling her friends about you (or your friends finding out about her).
or put a flag over her face and do it for your country....

So you really think the 85% of the population that is till HD free is suddenly going to go out an buy new tv's just so they can go blu-ray?? Your out of your mind.

I've got close to 1k DVD's, I am not replacing it anytime soon with another format. I have seen both and compared to most movies upscaled the difference to me is neglegable so its not worth the investment right now.
Maybe in a few years when everything is shot in HD and there is tons of CGI in films it will be more beneficial but for your everyday movie its really not going to make a huge difference.
Just watched The Kingdom last night upscaled and it looked just as good as it did when I saw it in the movies. Should I go pay a $10-20 premium on the BD disc because there is more space and its supposed to be superior? Not in my opinion, but opinions are like assholes and everyone has one so this is just mine.

I only buy Blu-Ray movies now that I have my PS3 to play them on. Most people say they can't tell a difference between upscaled DVD and Blu-Ray, but put both side by side playing the same movie on nice tv's and you WILL see a MAJOR difference. DVD is a last resort for me now when it comes to buying/renting movies.

know one is saying you have to replace your dvd collection since you can still play your dvd's on your bluray player. If you think upscaling coversion is just as good you might have to go to the eye doctor. If Upscaling was good then we wouldn't bother buying highdef players just those crappy ones that claim to upscale its bogus. I'm not rich yet I can afford all the systems and a high def tv which was only 500 dollars

My vision is just fine and I can afford to buy a BD player if I want to. Besides I wouldn't buy a PS3 for it I would get a dedicated machine like I do with my dvd players. To me the difference doesn't justify the $20 per disc increase. I don't need to see every blackhead on someone's nose in a movie to enjoy it. Every movie I have watched on my 1080p 52" DLP looks excellent upscaled unless it is a movie that was filmed over 20yrs ago or was something with a bad transfer, and even then it's not that big a deal.
I also know that I don't have to replace my collection, but look at some of the first discs that came out, like the Fifth Element. They rereleased it because it didn't look as good as it should have the first time it was released. Now they are double dipping movies on BD and HD DVD that were double dipped on DVD.
You can praise it all you want but you wont change MY OPINION on the matter. For me this is a non issue. Maybe in years to come when everything is filmed in HD or CGI is even more prevelant and DVD's just aren't cutting it I will switch, but for now DVD's suit me just fine and I will continue to support them.
On a side note I thought the following article was interesting,

Now where are all the people that claim MS pays for exclusivity, and lets see them explain this one away.
