I have a launch day USA Wii with a Wiikey clone. Wii fw was 2.2U and Wiikey had never been updated. Everything has always been working perfectly.

First, I updated Wiikey firmware to 1.9b with update disc. Perfect update. I then inserted the 1.3 Config disc with GCOS. Loaded fine. I changed Region Override setting to ON. Rebooted. Since then, nothing works! It doesn't read original nor backups!

Decided to update my Wii to see if it would fix it. Updated to 3.1U via wifi, it didn't change a thing.

I tried with different DVDs (update discs, recovery disc, config disc, backup games, original games), it's always the same result. The drive runs for a second, stops and sends a cannot read disc message on the screen. I also noticed that when I power up the Wii without any DVD inserted, the drive makes a different sound than before. It sounds exactly as if you were inserting a disc, but pulling it out before it goes in.

I did look on the forums and on the web. It seems that others have the same problem, but I didn't find a solution. I tried powering it all off (removing power cord), multiple resets, etc.

I'm out of solution. The problem is either the update or the region setting which blocks the drive from seeing the DVDs. I don't think it's the update because it read the config disc fine right after updating.

Please help! Thanks!!

I solved the problem!!!

After leaving my console unplugged for a few days, I plugged in the power, loaded the original 1.2 disk and it booted!!

Put Region override = ON, updated to 1.9g and everything works like a charm.
