My old PSP is pretty beat up, I've drop it a few times and the plastic is all scratched and I just now broke the analog stick ( i'm not sure if that can be fixed from buying a new case online or not. It actually snapped off and it can't be put back on). Anyways, because of all this I'm thinking about buying a new slimmer PSP and wanted some opinions of those who have or decided not to get it to help make my decision.

Is it a better idea to just buy a new PSP and downgrade it? Or would I be better off buying a new case (if that fixes the analog stick) or just buy a whole new Fat PSP?

Thanks for the help

I say do both. Buy the slim, its much easier to lug around and you'll be happier with it.

Then fix up the old one. You can use it as a tester for new firmwares, and a loaner to play against friends who don't have one. If you ever brick your slim, you can use the old one to recover.

At a minimum you'll need a new faceplate, ~$20 for a camy. If the analog nub will not snap back on, you probably broke the analog stick itself, so another ~$10, plus a $6 Hori, plus shipping charges. Should be <$50 to fix it up when all is said and done.

I'd look for a used fat model that's in good shape. Not all homebrew runs on the 3.xx kernel, and the slim doesn't support the 1.50 kernel.

Plus, using iR Shell to change the channel to cartoons when my dad is trying to watch reruns of World War II documentaries on the History Channel is always good for a laugh, and the slim doesn't have an infrared port.

yeah, I'd say the main points to weigh are the TV-out of the new slims and the IR port of the phats.

I have both a slim and a fat so I'm covered:D
