Kind of a random thread, but I thought it might generate some interesting discussion. We have all learned by now that the magic to fixing those buggy PSX games is to find a code that works, whatever the game. A while ago a guy used a hex editor to change a prx and managed to get Parasite Eve 2 working, finding the right code in the process.
This got me thinking... How many codes are actually stored in the prx's? The list on Simple Popstation GUI is huge and is far too many codes to bother going through trying to get a game to work properly. Depending on how many there actually was, wouldn't writing down all the codes within the prx's narrow down the working ones? I mean, from there it would just be a matter of finding a relation between the codes.
Even though there's only a small list of games that don't work now, it would still be an interesting thing to find out why it actually works. It doesn't make much sense to me how a simple code change can make all the difference, but it does. Opinions?
