PRESS RELEASE: Burnout Paradise Demo Now Available

Available now at the PLAYSTATION®STORE and XBOX LIVE™ MARKETPLACE, the downloadable demo will allow players to experience a piece of Paradise City before the game hits retail stores in the UK on January 25, 2008.

Discover jumps, billboards and smashable targets all over Motor City, Big Surf Beach and Ocean View in search of the fastest Burnout Route in the Hunter Cavalry car. Also, attempt your shot at a race and check out the all-new Stunt Run mode. If you’re online, invite up to three friends into your game and connect with them instantly using the EasyDrive online system. Once online, players can work cooperatively to complete three FreeBurn challenges or simply smash each other up and grab their Burnout Mugshots with the PLAYSTATION®Eye and Xbox LIVE™ Vision cameras.

The development team at Criterion pushes the boundaries to make each Burnout game stands on its own – reinventing the franchise with every iteration. The Paradise experience is all about freedom and exploration. The game has been designed to embrace speed, freedom, social online play and spectacular crashing, but now with all new modes, a completely open world and events at every intersection.

So make action your middle name and take to the streets of Paradise City.

I've checked the EU and US PlaystationStore and it's not there.
I guess we need to wait.
I've heard the demo will come on 8AM PACIFIC time, which means 5h and 20m left.

But your post stated, flately, that it wasn't yet available in the UK. Which is plainly false and, to quote someone who's name I can't recall, "NEXT TIME CHECK YOUR FACTS BEFORE POSTING COMPLETE AND UTTER LIES!!!!"

OMG! Quick! I'm gonna buy a PS3 to download a demo I can't wait a week to play because I'm such addicted to videogames it has become a matter of life or death!

So what if silver members can't play the demo until the 20th... we're talking about a game demo here. It's not like anybody gonna die because they can't play it. So what if they can't play it now. They'll play it later. What's the big fuss all about? Anybody making a big issue out of this seriously need to get a life... and a girlfriend.

It's just the fact that M$ have the cheek to make the cheaper silver member wait longer for a demo that PSN get for free anyway on the global demo release date, and no, obviously games aren't a matter of life and death, I have a girlfriend... no need to be jealous.

the psn is only free because they aren't experiencing overloads with the few online games that are available. if they get as big as some hope then dont be surprised if they offer other packages that will be featured only to paying customers. the only games really being played on psn are cod4, resistance, warhawk and now ut3. thats harldy a list to make the servers shake

Then why did M$ decide to make Live a costly service as soon as it was up and running?

Most people are dissing out on LIVE because Microsoft charge for it. But what people fail to understand is that running a thing like LIVE costs a lot of money. Even silver members are costing money to microsoft because they are still benefitting from some of LIVE services. Microsoft just decided to provide, free of charge, some basic online functionalities to everyone, and to alleviates the costs by selling gold memberships that will provide the full experience.

Sure, PSN is free. But like XBOX LIVE, it costs a lot to Sony to keep the network up and running. In the end, it's a winning situation for the user, sure, but keep in mind that while it looks free for you, it is far from "free" to Sony, as they're paying big time to run it.

Both Microsoft and Sony are paying money to keep their network running. But Microsoft chose to charge money for gold membership, alleviating the costs associated with running LIVE, while Sony chose to pay all the costs associated with PSN. This means that as long as people will pay for Gold memberships on LIVE, Microsoft will have the financial backing required to run its online service. All the while, PSN network will still be entirely funded by Sony, and if Sony, at some point, don't have the financial backing necessary to run it, or find it too expensive to maintain, they MIGHT change this. I'm not saying they'll start to charge, but they'll surely think of something to bring money in, as no company give something free to people because they're generous. It's a business, first and foremost.

People should realize that Sony don't "let" user play for free, but is actually paying so PS3 owners can play for free. Sony is "giving" away some services to people that otherwise would cost something. It's called "marketing". And it's like the Blu-Ray movie playing capabilities. It's something Sony paid to add value to the package, to incite consumers to buy it. Sony thought that by giving people free access to its network, it will help sales. It's a decision Sony made to compete against Microsoft.

Because if there wasn't any competition to care about, would you seriously think Sony would still have provided free access to PSN? Remember people : It's a business, not a charity program. If PSN is free, there is a reason why, and it has nothing to do with Sony being generous.

...

That being said, I have no problem paying for gold membership on LIVE. I once thought otherwise, but once you understand the business side behind such a thing, you start to think that it's not necessarily exaggerated to pay a small fee (less than 25 cents per day) for such a thing.

If it's free, it usually is because someone else pay for it. Not because it cost nothing.
