Cnet's Reisinger: People think the PS3 will win war and I laugh

Don Reisinger of Cnet has posted up a title "Analyst believes PS3 will win war and I laugh." His editorial comes on the back of an analysis report that Sony will surpass the Xbox 360 and Wii by 2011. Reisinger does think the Wii will beat the Wii but believes that it is Microsoft's Xbox 360 that will eventually take the day, reminding us to just look at the upcoming release calendar in order to see what he means.



More than anything else, this is where Microsoft will be able to take the day. If developers prefer to create games on the Xbox 360 and they find that development on that console is most advantageous, what's the impetus for those same developers to create compelling titles on the Xbox 360? And while this industry is full of game porting, if you currently own an Xbox 360 and more and more games are ported to other consoles, why would you want to buy new hardware to play the same game you can already have on your current machine?

I commend Sony on reducing development costs in an attempt to coax developers to its side and I think its decision to drop the price of the PS3 was an intelligent one. But in the end, when console sales start to dwindle and people are only buying hardware because of the games that are available and not those that will be available, Sony's console will start to falter. At the same time, Microsoft's Xbox 360 will continue to sell well and eventually take the day. Just look at either console's upcoming release calendar and you'll know what I mean.

And in the end, the tried and true trend in gaming will still be true: innovation and advanced technology are great, but it's the games that matter. And when it comes to the variety and appeal of games, Microsoft commands the market.

the wii is beating the 360 and it had a one year start. the wii is showing that its becoming like the ds as far as the way it sales. the PS3 doesn't have a chance unless sony changes policy and business practices and can find a way to lower the price of the PS3 even further and at least get it down to the price of the 360. problem with that is because sony priced themselves so high in the first place any price drop on their part is going to allow microsoft and nintendo to react and counter it.

Um the 360 would never ever be the front runner in this generation , it had it's chance the for the first year it was out after that it was time to step aside for the big boys, the Only reason the 360 has managed to maintain a 2nd place position is because of the PS3 high price point,developing issues and lack of exclusives all of which will be become less of a problem in the year 2008 with the release of Killzone,Haze,MGS,FF etc. There's many a reason why the 360 won't win this gen one being the 33%(or possibly higher) rate of defected XBOX 360's , that is unprecedented for a games console and will surely make MS suffer at some point in the near future.

Where I become unsure is the whole PS3 V Wii situation , the Wii may loose it's novelty and crumble to Sony or continue to sell strong for this generation on a range of first party titles, if Wii continues to win I believe that 3rd parties will possibly make less this generation in comparison to previous gens.(not in terms of actual money made but more in terms of the 1stParty:3rd party sales ratio)

I doubt the 360 will win this gen, well not ina way that can be seen as a clear cut victory. I doubt the PS3 will win though i expect it to be snapping at the 360 heels come the start of the next gen. The Wii is somthing on it's own, it is a toy in the same essence as party games for most so sort of competes more with the likes of video quiz games or things like twister, rather than the PS3 and 360 for most people.

Anyway I think this is all a plus for us as conumers as it forces the manufactureres to inervate and try harder to win our sales, good times for all of us as we are all likley to get what we want from one or the others.

It's funny how people are saying how good the Wii is outselling every console on the market. But no one mentions the fact that all the games for it sucks. If you look at all the game reviews out there the Wii only has about three titles that have decent reviews. If all the games sucks, why are people buying it? The answer is because of the kids. Parents will not spend $400 on a game console when they can spend $250, and kids are to stupid to know any better. Like a dog with a stick, these kids see the wiimote as a magical toy that does magical things and of course they want it. Not understanding how or why it works or the fact that the games are boring as hell. Just like how McDonald's use toys to promote their food to the kids. I have a WII and I enjoy it alot, its fun to play when my friends com to my place, I <3 the Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles on it, and I like the VC on it aswel, some off my favorite old school games are on there.
I also have a 360 and a PS3, I play most on my 360, it has more games on it I like, but still my WII is still running more then my PS3, I like the PS3 aswel, but the only 2 games I like on PS3 right now are The eye Of Judgment and Untold legends Dark Kingdom, and play ps2 games on it is nice aswel, but still playing 360 the most. but i am no fanboy off any off the Game consoles, if I ever was a Fanboy off any Game consoles it was from the DC, but never dit I put out stupid comments about other consoles, I have loved every game console there has ever bin, but never dit I give **** about what game console was number one.

My g/f sold her wii because all the games suck. The only reason she wanted it is because it is interactive. The only game that was any good that we played the entire time we had it was resident evil 4. We play my ps3 ALOT more then we played the wii and it is suppose to have no games!:eek:

And that's leaving out stuff like Spectral Force 3, Operation Darkness, Castle Crashers, DOAX2, etc...and 90% of those are scheduled for the first half of 08. By that logic the only thing coming out for the PS3 in 08 would be MGS4 (if it doesn't go multi-platform)? What else? FFVIII and GT5 are likely going to end up in 09.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love my $600 paperweight to get more use but so far I have played 3 games that I didn't care for and 4 that I actually bought I got about 50 total hours of entertainment out of it so far and by the release schedules it looks like I'm done until next quarter, id love to see it with enough decent titles to justify its worth, but the library and upcoming library are nowhere close to comparable.

I'd actually wager that as crappy as Splinter Cell is IMHO it will outsell MGS4 assuming they both stay exclusive.

You are right, but the one that needs the exclusive games to catch up is the PS3 not the X-360, for whatever MS cares they're winning the console war (at least against sony), so sony's the one that need to get an advantage on the X-360, and other than MGS, GT5 and FF series, I don't see killer exclusives... (Killzone was crap and better Gfx do not make the game, so unless you already play it :rolleyes: correct me if I'm wrong)

This has been the most disappointing "next gen" I have ever been in.
I'm on my 4th 360....so I don't really use it anymore, and 95% of the Wii games are garbage and the PS3 library has only 3 games I'm interested in.

My only hope is for developers to smarten up on the Wii or start releasing better games for the PS3. I have abandoned MS and refuse to support them now or ever and I hope they never control the video game industry.

The DS has been good, but still there is a ton of crap for it. I have a house full of game consoles and a large HDTV and I find myself spending all my gaming time at my PC......last gen my PC never got used.....how things change.

And that's the game I seriously want!! Each gen, there bound to be console defining games that utilise the console potential or the main star attraction. Articles complete crap. 360 has the best software library at present without a doubt. As I have said all along, the unique exclusives will be the ultimate decider as both the ps3 and 360 box the same weight.

Now the sales of the ps3 are on the up, more exclusives will follow.

Race aint over yet by a long way. The problem with the wii despite its great sales is the novelty factor and average age of the installed user base.

These are going to get older or tire of the format. Yes you could argue that casual gamers or old people looking for excersise form the bulk of the user base.

I would bet that every screaming kid in the country is whining for a Wii.

Looks to me like the 360 is dominating right now. My household has multiple consoles of each type with the exception of the Wii. Never can find any more of those. We are a family of very avid gamers, so we play them all.

That being said, the most played consoles in the house are the 360's. They are played every day. When a game is available on multiple system, we prefer the 360 version because of Live and it's achievements systems. They lend another level of competition to our games, and give us something to brag about with each other.

The 360 section at our local game stores are now the same size as the once biggest PS2 sections. The smallest section is the PS3's. The Wii section, 4th behind the PS2/DS/PSP, is growing at each store, but a lot of the Wii and DS games are junk.

As far as Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD, no thanks on either right now. They cost more and I can't do anything I want with them. I can't take them on the road with portable anything, back them up or even re-encode them for my PSP. I have noticed HD-DVD's fly off the shelves at our local 'mart stores since the $99 player sale though. The Blu-Ray's just sit there, same ones every time I go in and take notice.

Sorry Sony, but it appears that being first (360) and price really does matter. It seems they figured that out much too late. I still can't figure out Nintendo's strategy with supply. A coworker told me just today how he has given up getting a Wii for Christmas and was going to move on the something else. Wonder how many other Wii seekers have given up and moved on?

Incidentally, the Wii is our least used console. Hmm... $400 on eBay?

Well some of the HD-DVD movies you buy are hd-dvd and dvd on one disc so you could still take the movie around and play it on say a laptop or portable dvd player. You can do hd or blueray rips. Right now I watch blueray rips on my external on my 360 pretty close to normal with one major thing being lose of sound quality.

THe discs are expensive but there are pretty much b1g1 deals for either format like every other weeks. I had no interest in getting into the format war, but those 98 players got me because I just wanted an upscaling dvd player. Also Ill have both anyway because Ill have a ps3 at some point.

Funny story my frineds dad just bought a ps3 sold motorstorm and forbid his son to buy any games for it. He wants it only as a blueray player for his tv. His dad is kinda anal and took the controller away. Why he bought the 80 gig when he only wants to watch movies is beyond me but he never makes sense anyway. I know its an extreme here, but I wonder how many people buy the system really just for the blueray? Its a number we will never know.
