luckily i found a RROD xbox on ebay, only £65 including postage, ill just fix it up and use that for live (if that isnt banned too......)

I got banned today, I was on 1.4, and I was always as carefull as I could be in running quality backups, but oh well, only a matter of time i suppose. I'm still running an original ms25 launch 360, never had a red ring and survived all the previous bannings, thought I was invincible :)

microsoft flags you and bans you later. No way to tell what firmware is the cause. 1.4 could be 100% safe but if you were flagged at 1.2 e.g. you will get banned.

The divx download was separate from the dashboard update... maybe they got the dash update but never downloaded the codec from the marketplace prior to being banned?

You dont have to be online to watch Divx movies, just redownload the patch manually. I watch all divx movies offline because well... theyre illegal movies i watch lol. like movies out in theatres and im afraid if im online M$ would see that... so thats why i watch them offline.

you have old firmware you have to have the stealth firmware ixtreme 1.4 is what i have on a benq drive plus the new falcon chip works fine it is my thrid 360 with hdmi port though i had two hitachis drive they suck they dont like to load cheap disc the benq reads everything. plus its easy to update

I got banned a few days ago running samsung xtreme 5.2. wasnt even playing but the console was left on. i sat down to play and it was disconnected.

I went out the next day and bought a new arcade pack which is great with a hdmi port too so i now have 2 xbox 360s.

First xbox banned will be used to play backups offline to trial the game and if i think the game is good enough to buy then i will buy it to play on live on my new box. All i do is swap the hard drives between the two so im kinda glad i got banned cos now i have the best of both worlds.

Only thing i am worried about it the divx issue with being seen online as i am using the new hdmi one to view them. looks like i will be naming the files "babyatchristmas2007" etc

You obviously don't have kids that use your console. Talk to me when you have 3 kids +friends playing with expensive originals. I am blessed and cursed that they enjoy sports games but constantly having to buy new originals will cause you to do things differently.

But i would rather not risk them becoming unplayable (cant now tho as i love playying online too much to risk it.

if m$ did a FREE swap your scratched disks thing then it would be good. Ofcourse there is genuine people who want it for piracy but its not everyone so shhhhh.

I cannot see why people expect a FREE replacement. If I bought a music CD and it got scratched and skipped, I can't call sony/BMG and get a free replacement. I know someone will say a CD doesn't cost $60 bucks but it cost money regardless of the value. I know people will say kids but come on. All my friends are married with 2+ kids and even though they are small kids, you have to train them properly to handle disc. If they can't handle a disc they shouldn't be playing with CD/DVD's then. I have plenty of friends who have games that do work but they have instilled in their kids the way of properly handling a CD/DVD. I also have friends who have kids that aren't that great with disc and those friends kept the games away from their kids or they will tell their kid to let them know when they want to play and they will put the game in for them. I know kids are kids but kids learn from their parents.

PS - Why don't you actually call the company and ask them if they have a disc replacement program. It may but be free but it's not going to cost you another $40 bucks either. I had a 360 game with a crack in the game (RS - Vegas). The crack got worse over time and eventually moved from the center of the DVD to the middle of the DVD. I called Ubisoft and they said they offer a DVD replacement program. I didnt even need a proof of Purchase. They said me having the game box and manual was enough proof. I sent them the whole game + $20 bucks and they sent me back a brand new copy a few weeks later. I'm sure people would say $20 is much better than paying another $60 for it.

So I have managed to cure the issue for those of us with Divx issues. After some trial and error I have found the issue for some of us being forced to be connected to Live in order to watch these files is related to our system itself. When you have a harddrive it must recognize if the system is the original system that came with the hard drive. In cases like mine where I had the 3 red rings of death and had my Xbox 360 sent back twice the hard drive was kept but only the system was exchanged. And due to that reason the original profile aka gamertag was created on the original Xbox. Therefore in order to play Divx files with the original gamertag I require to be connected to Live because it wont save the codecs to the hard drive.

Now the workaround:

1. Create a new hotmail address.
2. Create a new gamertag on Xbox
3. Sign into the new gamertag
4. Download the Divx codec
5. Disconnect from Live and restart Xbox to test
6. Enjoy!

I have tested this and it works.. It sucks to have to sign into another profile just to watch movies but at least you dont have to go on Live to do it now..

yeah I figured out the divx problem. It works the same as xbox live arcade. I downloaded the update on my old xbox and so my new one needs to be signed in to access it.

If I scratch my music cd I just make a backup of it and play it in my sony cd player Sony wont bann my recorder so that I cant play any more cds.

It not right to compare a music cd with a xbox360 game, a music cd you can copy without any troubles ahead , a 360 game copied will get you banned from xbl in the long run, thats more expensive if games were cheaper pirating would be insignificant.

Here in sweden where I live a new xbox360 game can cost up to 98 $

and that is expensive, if a game would cost lets say 30$ I wouldnt bother myself with burning games, I would go out and buy them, no question about that.

people who get banned never recieve a error message

you recieve a error code on the connection test though.

You do get some form of banned error message. I forget, I think you need to check the "More info" tab at the XBoxLive area or the Network Adapter sections. You then can see the error code as well.

On regards on firmware...anyone using xtreme would get caught since it never used a stealth features. Using thbe iXtreme 1.2-1.4 does have stealth. Of course people who had iXtreme and who did get banned, it was caused from using a bad SS file. That bad SS was caused by using burners with the KREON firmware. KREON firmware some how alters the SS files.

But it's really anybodys guess in my opinion, we have no idea if people are getting banned for a game they ran months ago before certain firmware updates came out, if it really is this kreon rip bug, or if microsoft has figured out some way to 'see through' the protections that c4e has implemented

I understand XBOX live bannings to some extent , anti piracy and all that stuff but in my eyes it's like McDonalds not allowing people in their restraunts if they bring frood from another restraunt inside the premises, financial suicide consideraring the value Xbox live adds to the XBOX experience.

got 2 360s diffrerent region codes both hitachi , first ban with 1st wave , now the sec banned with the 2nd wave ,got the latetest frimware , dont have gold membership , never played online , only use live to update dashborad still got banned , so for what its helpfull for u , dosent matter what game played online , wether u play online or not , as for divx , i updated the dashboard before got banned , still playing divx , even better used the same harddisk to update the sec 360.
from my experiance ,we are group of 20 360 , samsung drives ith the lates frimware less likly to ban than hitachi, still dont like sammy drives as the are loud and always got tray jammed.

I just finished Tomb Raider Anniversary last night, i have played 7 hours of mass effect ntsc which is supposed to be a bad kreon rip, and i play COD4 NTSC religiously which is also supposed to be a bad rip.

well, if that kreon checker is up to date, then my COD4 checks out to be ok... that means it was my oblivion (faulty DMI, NOT GOTY Edition) that has caught me out

i have now used the kreon checker only to test what it show's. I have no drive with kreon firmware.And i do my ss,dmi and pfi files with my samsung toshiba drive (the xbox one) and it turned out that my bioshock backup shows the bad ss file too.Maybe there is something wrong with the checker.I have done all ss files like i said with the xbox drive.Can someone proof this too?

i think you mean xdvdmulleter.You put your backup in your pc dvd drive and start mulleter then save the ss to some place of your hdd and then check it with kreon checker.

It appears that MS has started banning people over the past week (happy holidays xbox360 users!).

As always, we would like to gather data and input from the community as to what may be causing these bans. It appears to effect the new ixtreme 1.4 aswell as the older ixtreme and non ixtreme versions, and all of the drives have been effected. We even have a few reports of a few trusted people in the community who were banned and had not played anything but a retail copy. As of this moment we do not know if a new security was implemented, or if they are further scrutinizing the already given criteria (SS, DMI, PFI alterations, timings, etc).

So if you have gotten banned over the past week, we would ask you to share the following with us in the forum thread below, otherwise, please do not post in the thread! Bans only!

A) Firmware Version, drive type (hitachi, samsung, benq) and when you upgraded/installed that version. Also include if you spoofed the version.
B) Previous firmware version's, or if the console is freshly modded or refurbished (please include manufactor date)
C) Backups played over the past month(and whether they were checked with kreon checker, if not, please check the SS and report the results)
D) Originals played over the past month
E) Method of backing up games (as always, piracy is not tolerable on xbox-scene, so if you have downloaded these games, please do not bother posting.

we all don't know exactly what ms does do ban the consoles.But maybe you are saver if you create a profile for offline playing and unplug the ethernetcable.That's what im doing im not banned yet but maybe flaged who knows :D.Maybe they look in forums like that and log the ip's and ban the boxes then :D but that sounds paranoid

This Xbox was bought recently premodded, so I would assume that it was flashed out of the box and then tested. Its a Samsung MS25 with ixtreme 1.2 revC. I have played Mass Effect (Bad), COD4, Skate, Halo3, PES2008, Orange Box (Bad), Assasins Creed.

I have just tested and am still on Live. I also have not seen many people on 1.2revC firmware have been banned. It seems to me that it's where firmwares have been continually updated especially with the number of people who have upgraded to 1.4 recently and seem to be banned.

Nah, i had xtreme 5.3 or whatever for hitachi since i got the box like 8 months ago and it got banned without reflashing.

I got banned with an unmodded drive but I had a slew of other mods like extra fans, leds, some mods to the heatsinks, I still play this 360 though, actually I'm a little glad I got banned because now I can play backups on this one now, but then I have another 360 as well so . . .:p
