View Full Version : MS looking into uncapping XBL 100 friends limit

Do you happen to be uber popular on Live but the 100 friends limit doesn't let you fulfill your status? Well there is a reason for the madness! MS say there are some interdependences such as original Xbox games having friends lists hard coded causing trouble. Ms say allowing more than 100 friends is something they are looking to do its just taking longer than they had hoped.

"I think it's something we definitely want to do and something we're looking at doing in the future, but it's been more technically complicated than anyone anticipated, so it's taking longer than we had hoped," said Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg to 1UP, while walking through the new dashboard update a few weeks back. "We will get there in the future."

"There's some interdependences. Some things like original Xbox games have friends lists hard coded in, so there's things we gotta work through, but we'll get it figured out, it's something we want to do. Still, the majority of Live users don't even have 30 friends. But, I agree, my list is full. [laughs]" said Greenberg.

That doesn't exactly lay down a timetable, but at least it's on Microsoft's agenda. Make sure to check out the last few XBL WTFs we've asked Microsoft about recently:

Are you kidding me? Are you trying to tell me you would fully utilize 100 friends on a list and still not be annoyed when you want to send an invite to a friend at the bottom of 100 people?

Come on...

I know a lot of people who have 100 and are deleting people to add more. Don't be angry because you have no friends since you bought a PS3.

Are you kidding me? I am not sure whether or not to be happy or pissed off.

I have never in all my time here been called a PS3 fanboy, but thanks for finally breaking that streak.

Thanks though, to think I ever could afford one.

I currently have an Xbox 360 and an Xbox 360 only for a while, so really not everybody who posts something bad about the 360 is a fanboy.

Just because I said one thing that you can't argue against, doesn't make me a fanboy. I have a tight circle of friends so I put myself into my example above and it would be hell getting to about 6 of my friends names because they start with X or something like XoX etc.

Nice try jerk.

I agree with you. Having 100 friends is insane. This isn't myspace...lol I also have a tight click of friends (it's well over 30). With a certain group I play a certain game but I can also agree that having it locked at 100 friends is kinda stupid. I ask myself, why would someone at M$ think of something future proof but it just brings me back to Y2K and the dreaded 2-digits year code that M$ was so slick to put in their OS......lol

I bet people with 100 friends don't play with them regularly..
I cleaned up my list and I now have 26, and I'm thinking that's too many!

i have about 24 friends and i honestly dont even know where they came from. i have about 4 actual friends on there the rest are accepted requests. if your life is that revolved around having hundreds of gaming friends then you should get out a little more. i get annoyed when im watching a movie and see those few people sign in and out, id probably throw my remote if i saw that for 100 people

Whacka turn of the notifications then it wont annoy you. I dont have any notifications on due to that exact reason:).

As for 100 friends wow, i have 20 on my list so i cant understand what the issue is of having 100 friends.

I dont have many friends either but a couple of them have had it since the original xbox so a lot of their friends carried over. One specifically has to delete someone when he adds someone so I know he wil like this. Its not like they are all strangers. You have 20 friends and you play gams with each one of them and meet two of their firends you now have 60 friends that are not perfect strangers. Big friends list are only really good for halo3 custom games for me. Sometimes we dont have the people on to get a good game going and then someone comes in with a 100 friend list well that game is getting filled up now.

jesus.. this is just as bad as The clan complaining on halo 2 and even Myspace..
Why in gods name do you need 100+ ONLINE ONLY friends??

I understand you may know maybean either of them personaly, but come on..

Begging for popularity on the internet is just ... umm.. really fucking sad.

You know there are real people out there.... that you can *gasp* talk to face to face.

The point here folks is that it's stupid to complain about something that you don't have to use. It's an unnecessary restriction and some people may find it useful to have it uncapped, doesn't mean it will automatically give everyone 100 friends on their list and annoy them.
