Hi,

last year I went up to 2.71
2.71 Easy downgrader to get to 1.50
I now have 3.03 OE-A but want to upgrade to a more recent version to play the new games.

I have not kept up to date on the forums to see the developments in the last year. (sorry!)

I see that there are now 2 different routes but can not see which is the best way to go. 3.X OE or 3.X M33.
If I just want my kids to play downloaded CSO/ISO's without homebrew etc, then what is my best option (and why, what are the main differences)?

Thanks

M33 is the successor of OE. Get 3.71 M33 and then update to 3.71 M33-3.

Thanks, but can you answer the following?

Does Dark Alex not update the OE versions anymore?
Why is M33 better?

Can I update to 3.71 M33 directly from 3.03 OE-A (without downgrading or installing any intermediate updates)?

M33 = OE

Its just that DA went off on a little side projects of M33:p and has kept the name since.

No, you need to go to 3.52 with update 4 first then you can go to 3.71M33 and the latest update for that.

OE and M33 are both by Dark_Alex.

Go to 3.52M33, apply 3.52M33-4 UPDATE, then from there go to 3.71m33, then apply 3.71m33-3 update. Basically 4 steps, but all very easy, just a matter of putting files in a folder and executing them on your psp.

From 3.03 Oe install 3.52 M33
http://exophase.com/psp/download/3.52M33.zip

1 - If you are under official 1.50 PSP firmware, copy kxploitpatcher and kxploitpatcher% folders from "1.50only/" of this download to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME/" and use it.
2 - Once done it, or if you are under any Special/Open Edition/M33, copy M33CREATOR folder to your "ms0:/PSP/GAME" (1.50fw) or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150" (SE/OE)
3 - Download official 3.52 eboot, rename it to 352.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"
4 - Download official 1.50 eboot, rename it to 150.PBP and place it on "ms0:/PSP/GAME/M33CREATOR/" or "ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33CREATOR/"
5 - Go to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33 CREATOR". Once finished, it will go back to the XMB.
6 - Go again to Games/Memory Stick on your PSP, and execute "3.52 M33UPDATE". You'll have to press X to agree to the installation.
7 - When finished, press X to shut down and reboot manually.
8 - Enjoy your 3.52 M33 ;)

Install 3.52 M33 Update 4
http://exophase.com/files/psp/M33-1234.zip

Put "M33Update4" folder in "GAME150" and run update.
(Ms0:/PSP/GAME150/M33UPDATE4/EBOOT.BPB)

Install 3.71 M33
http://exophase.com/psp/download/release.rar

First method for both psp, the prefered when possible:

Requeriments: a fat psp slim with 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4. Previous versions of M33 won't work,
due to a bug that affects them and OE; or a psp slim with 3.60 M33.

- Copy the UPDATE directory into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE and copy the EBOOT.PBP of the 3.71 Sony updater
there but with name "371.PBP". Note: the program will not even show if you copy it to a different folder than that.

- If you are in the fat psp, make sure you have configured the psp to run the game folder in the 3.XX kernel.

- Execute the program, it requires 78% of battery. If you have idstorage corrupted due to a downgrader, the program
will ask you to correct it automatically so the update can continue.

- Press X, and the Sony updater will begin. Sit and enjoy while Sony code installs 3.71 M33 :)

- When finished, the updater will ask you to reboot (pressing X or O). DO IT. Do not skip this step
shutting down the psp by yourself, or you'll end with a brick.

- You should be now in 3.71 M33

Addon for kernel 1.50 v2
http://www.dark-alex.org/150kernel_addon2.rar

- Copy the program to /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
- If you have 1.50 addon, make sure you have the kernel of game folder configured to 3.71, or the
program will not even start.

This update is totaly independent of the 3.71 M33 version installed (1, 2, or future ones),
and also independent of previous 1.50 kernel addon installed or not.

3.71M33-3 + PopsLoader
http://www.dark-alex.org/371m33-3.zip

- Copy the program to /PSP/GAME/UPDATE
- If you have 1.50 addon, make sure you have the kernel of game folder configured to 3.71, or the
program will not even start.

This update is totaly independent of the 3.71 M33 version installed (1, 2, or future ones),
and also independent of previous 1.50 kernel addon installed or not.

Good Work.

Thanks for the detailed guide, which I think I understand until we get to the "Requeriments: a fat psp slim" bit.
What is a fat psp slim, and how do I know if I have one?

Next question, what do you mean by "If you have 1.50 addon, make sure you have the kernel of game folder configured to 3.71,"

I just went to 3.03 OE-A last January and have never added or changed anything. So do I need to configure to 3.71 and if so, how?

Sorry if I sound ignorant, but I am learning!

Thanks,
Trevor

It is okay, you meet the requirements. That version can work on both the fat PSP and the slim.

So do you mean I can forget the "Addon for kernel 1.50 v2"? and just follow all the other steps?
Also do I need to find out about Pandoras battery which I have seen mentioned, but don't understand!

put the1.50 kernel add-on on, it just puts the 1.50 kernel on it to use 1.50 kernel based apps, but it can be optional beacuase their is some stuff that is made for the 3.XX kernels.

pandora battery is a unbricker and it can be made into DCv3 which installs 3.71M33-2 directly without the need to go to 3.52M33-4
