View Full Version : Is Capcom purposely shunning the PS3?
Capcom's relationship with Sony's platforms seem to be going from bad to worse, especially where the PS3 is concerned. Devil May Cry 4 has gone multi-platform, Monster Hunter ditched the PS3 and went to the Wii among other tactics by Capcom. But as if that wasn't enough to suggest they really don't like the PS3, a recent survey they sent out completely omitted the PS3 when asking what consoles gamers own!

The enclosed card was from last year, which is why there's no Wii on there either.

its all about how much money they can make this is why the have chosen to go multiplatform it has nothing to do with any console.

I agree. They went multi because there is more money there.
They maby see some worring future for now in making big moves with just the ps3, but I certenly dont think they diss it. Look, they announched Lost Planet recently for it..so i guess not..

in the case of the PS2 the market share was so high that it made sense to publish just for that one machine, why would they spend money developing'porting xbox/GC games when the market was 4x bigger on the PS2. Any resources were better used on a new PS2 game rather than a ported game to other machines.
This generation is very different but they are still supporting the PS3, atleast more than they did the xbox/gc of last gen which to me proves they arnt fully shunning the machine. When the PS3 has reached 10 - 15 million sales, alot of which will be n japan, it will make alot more sense to focus on the machine. Overall i do think the market will be alot more evened out than it was last gen, mainly between MS and Sony, its more of a fight for second place for them now.

I think they are obviously focusing less on both the 360 and ps3 .... They eyes are on the wii , and its the good decision for them ... Resident Evil 4 alone sold quite a lot on the wii .

I like how this is the only reply that matters for the thread, but nobody else seems to have read it.

Meh, probly was a misprint or something. Don't they have Lost Planet in dev for the ps3, and if DMC4 is multi, it's not like Ps3 is being shunned.

Once upon a time there was a time without $ony where many company produced amazing games in harmony between them, where the market of arcade and home entertainment were both fascinating until the dark $ony age.....etc

Dear Player,
The process of massification of videogames to a very low level of quality has begun with $ony when Nintendo refused the chance to do the CD player for the super famicom, from there was born the PSX.
I have repaired thousands of consoles, it is my job, and until the arrival of $ony interventions were not ever to defect coverage but to improve it, for example the only piece defective in super famicom was the sound card of Sony. Thanks to $ony now I have a lab full of console routes to be repaired every day and many aren't modded.
Shelter also professional $ony VCR for Broadcast like DVCAM e BetaCAM that are full of mechanical defects view of the poor quality materials, have you never opened a ps3? the Blue Ray drive It is ridiculous, it is composed only of two pieces of plastic!!!
Have you never opened a Wii, the dvd drive is the envy of the best Matsushita or Pioneer products and made with metal....
Not to mention the Sony car Audio, in the years 80-90 was normal to have keys volume broken, otherwise it wasn't a sony, but my Nakamichi cassette deck still running well after 25 years.....Why?
Talk of laserdisc sony, all with front broke after 3 or 4 eject!!! Stop these Sony trashcan.
Sony has incorporated and destroyed dozens of softwarehouse that came from Amiga age with brilliant people who refused to make products for low-ranking players.
Those years I have lived all of them intensely and certainly not in the stroller as many other.

Exactly what I was thinking, if they want money, pursue it instead of giving up because you can't nail it the first time.

I suppose the only problem with that is the fact that games don't sell on the PS3. So if they want money.... they are pretty much forced to look elsewhere.

So you call that continuing the development of their best franchises on the PS3 shunning? I am sorry but this is silly.

Actually Sony's PS2 was out before the first Xbox and Sony hyped it up to levels unheard of.... Real time Toy Story type graphics and so much more that its not even funny. This pretty much killed the market for the DreamCast. Anyway MS did not invent hype... (I have never owned an Xbox or a 360)

I don't get it you work fixing consoles, and you hate sony for basically providing you with a job during the ps1/2 era? And I don't know about the software houses you say sony "killed", but if you know about console history you'll remember that the 2600 was basically "killed" by everyone and their mom releasing crappy games for it. Non-gaming companies would release games on the thing just to promote their products and so on. Kinda reminds me of the whole BK games on the 360, but they weren't sold at retail price so it's all good.
I do agree that nintendo consoles are usually built like tanks. The fact that my NES and my SNES survived all my experiments into console disassembly are a testament to that. I definitely don't share your hate for sony due to poor quality builds; that means that I would hate 99.9% of all companies out there.

This scenario of Sony losing all their previous exclusives mirrors exactly what happened to Nintendo with the N64.
In the mid 90s Nintendo were the top dogs having destroyed all before them in the previous 2 generations and the new N64 was undoubtably the most powerful console of that generation but it was late to market, had a proprietory media format that didnt make sense and was overpriced.
Despite having some great games it never recovered from this and FF, DQ and all of its previous million seller exclusives on the SNES went to Sony because the companies who were previously in bed with Nintendo just couldnt guarantee a return on N64 games for the outlay.
Its 2007 and its the exact same scenario facing Sony.

I still remember I felt betrayed my nintendo when the n64 came out. I don't remember how long it took for me to actually like an N64 game; I do know that it took a while. Probably Zelda was the first one since goldenye I played way after it was released. My main gripe was that all the games were too kiddy (I know that's not totally accurate, but lack of information is a b*tch)

The N64 played host to some of the greatest games ever made, Super Mario 64, Zelda OoT and Goldeneye and it never saved the console.
People keep putting their faith in stuff thats absolutely not guaranteed to sell in big numbers. I couldnt tell you anything about Ratchet and Clank if you paid me because I wouldnt even give the game a second thought because its not my style. FF13 would get my vote because I happen to like that style but I wouldnt buy MGS4 because 2 bored me to tears with its endless cutscenes.
Its mass market EA crap like Madden, FIFA, Tiger Woods, Medal of Honor etc etc that sells consoles on a consistant basis not games like FF13.
If you think those 3 games are going to be anything but a blip on the PS3s sales then you are in for a huge disappointment.
