Hi all!

I am going to be buying a PSP to use for playing SNES/NES games with an emulator, PS1 isos and legit PSP games.

I just have a few questions along the lines of what PSP can I buy to do this and which fw will I need to install to make things work nicely.

I am wondering if I can just buy a used PSP on ebay to accomplish all of the above. If so which firmware should I look for. Can I only do this with 1.5 firmware or could it be any version? In this case which M33 fw would I need to install?

Would it be possible to accomplish all of this with one of the new PSP slims? Does the video out still function properly when it is hacked?

It's important that the PSP will still be able to play the new FF tactics when it comes out, I am not sure if that would be an issue or not with a hacked PSP.

Thanks guys!

OK first thing dont talk about downloaded games here as it is illegal. We only play legal backups ;)

You will want a fat psp if you want to play emulators although i have heard people say that the slim does play some of them. Most homebrew works under the 1.5 kernel and the slim doesnt have that.

You will want 3.71 M33 with the 1.5 add-on. Any psp can be downgraded but only if you have another psp with custom firmware. You should look out for one that is already pre-loaded with a custom firmware or one with 1.5 firmware.

Hi Showstopper,

So would a fat PSP with 1.5 fw that's upgraded to 3.71M33 be able to play regular PSP games (even new ones)?

Downloading games off the net isn't illegal as long as you OWN the game. If you have no way of making one, but want to keep a backup just in case, it's completely legal. Now whether or not you own the games you're downloading, keep that part to yourself.

chemuswitch: I suggest you get a slim psp. A lot of the emulators are working on it already and more will be ported eventually... Soon most (if not all) emus will be working on the slim. Video out DOES work with a hacked slim, same as a non-hacked one. Plus it's just a lot slimmer and lighter than the orig :)

Hi PSPzorz!

I definitely would prefer to get the slim psp if it will meet my needs.

Can the slim PSP, once hacked, for sure play PSX(playstation 1) ISOs?

Do you know if SNES9X works for the slim yet?

:)

Yes the slim can play PSX games, same as the fat :)

When it comes to Snes emulation though, it's not perfect... yet. The current emulation is a bit laggy but, given enough time, fullspeed snes emu is gonna happen. As far as I know, we would need someone to convert the code to work better under 3.XX kernel. Just give it time, it's definitely possible to get fullspeed on slim, just might take awhile and I suggest you just go ahead and get the slim :).
