Rock Band to launch November 23 for $170, PS2/PS3 Wireless, 360 not

MTV has revealed that Rock Band will launch on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on November 23rd and will set you back a pretty penny at $169.99, the package includes a copy of the game, a guitar, a mic and a drum kit. Surprisingly the PS2 package will be shipping on December 10th at a price of $160 (it was expected to ship in 2008) and the both the PS2 and PS3 guitars will be wireless while the Xbox 360 one will be wired.



We’ve been told by our corporate chiefs that, actually, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will launch on November 23 at a cost of $169.99. That package will include the game, one guitar, a mic and a drum kit.

The surprise twist? The PS2 version of “Rock Band,” once thought scheduled for 2008, will actually ship this year. The full PS2 package ships December 10 for $159.99.

The PS2 and PS3 guitars will be wireless. The 360 one will be wired.

Rock Band is made by Harmonix... I trust them more.

Plus, $170 isn't that bad since it contains not only the Game and Guitar, but a Mic and Drum Set as well.

170 is actually pretty good seeing as how GH3 is around 90. Rock band gives you a guitar, drums, mic, and the game.

Basically its like 50 for each piece and 20 for the mic. :)

Everyone knew that RB for the 360 was getting wired for a long time now. It's nice that the guitars are wireless for the PS3 . Are the drums and Mic wireless also? In any case it's not MS fault. The developers are the one's that make the final call. They are the greedy ones. Just look at the GH3 for Wii. I bet it will be the same price as the others even though the guitar just takes a Wii-mote. It's nothing but buttons and the shape of a guitar. Maybe they will include a wiimote??

LAWL...with these news, since Guitar Hero II sold PS2s, and now with the upcoming Rock Band included with wireless equipment, PS2s are definitely going to start selling again, unless there's online available for this game then we can expect some rise in PS3 sales. 360...errr..uuhhh...uhhhh...i have no comment to make:p

There is a single player mode, so you can go through each instrument alone. But evidently each single player game is pretty short compared to the multiplayer - but considering that the multiplayer is the real meat, that's not surprising.

There are 2 things I'm interested in. I've gone ahead and preordered the PS3 version - but I'm surprised there's no Wii announcement yet. Maybe later on there will be.

The other thing is when/if online multiplayer will be enabled. That will be pretty cool, since then you won't need your "band" physically there all of the time.

sony never announced a sales number they assumed a number. if they announced an actual sales number it wouldnt have had a million difference between the two figures they said. wait until the sales numbers come out shouldnt be too long until then. and having a system be a year older means its out twice the amount of time and the numbers show that they have more then twice the amount of consoles sold, i'd say its not doing any justice trying to throw numbers around because in terms of sales wii is dominant

You can buy the game by itself for $60, or you can buy any of the 3 instruments individually. The $170 price is for all the instruments and the game in 1 package.

i just wish they would announce the date for the wireless guitar for the 360 already. its listed as nov 1st but its always announced as "released at a later time". I dont really need the guitar since im getting the gh3 one but would be nice to have it for when rock band came out anyway

Meh, I would obviously rather have wireless, but since the drums and mic are wired anyway on all systems, it's kinda pointless to just have a wireless guitar. There's always usb extension cords if you need more room.

if that was true then why is guitar hero 3 w/guitar the same price on the ps3 and 360 both wireless. people have suggested the price payment to get the rights to the ir on the 360 but there have only been two companies which gained the rights and neither of the peripherals have come out yet and one of those two peripherals is 20 more then on the ps3 and the other is the same.

They said from day 1 that the drums and mic would be wired, so why do you really need a wireless guitar if everything else is wired? They're throwing in a free usb hub so it's not like you won't be able to use everything.

That's exactly why I'm not concerned with the guitar being wired on the 360. My guitar for GH2 is wired and it's fine on the 360. The cord is really long so you can move around.
