View Full Version : Xbox Live collapses due to Halo 3 effect
Earlier on it would appear that Xbox Live collapsed due to what is know as the Halo 3 effect. As many gamers went online Live to play with their brand new shiny Halo 3 copies, the Live infrastructure clapped out due to the immense traffic. At one point less than 1000 players were listed as being online Halo 3 but now things seem to be back up and running and usual.
Yes, it was quite the downer last night after having shelled out for my first xbox, Halo3, and the Gold card only to keep inputing the same fields over and over only to be told to try again later. Now I'm at work printing out all the firewall information I can find. As it was my first go at this I have to troubleshoot from all angles, but betweeen you and me, the servers went Kaput.

To c0ck up the launch of a product. Couldn't get on live at all after going out to get halo 3 at midnight. Very disappointed at the time. It's not a bad game but massive overhyping, damaged discs and crappy Live have marred the release. Maybe PS3 will go one better in a year or so once the user base and games catches up, by which time my 360 will be on ebay.

They should have seen this coming with all their hype. You think they would have put up additional servers to handle the load.... But MS fanboys will continue to worship this POS anyway so I guess they figured why spend the extra money when they can just let it crash and people will keep on paying for it .

i wish you would lock these types of threads.basicly not leave them open to discussion cos:
no1.its boring.
no2.they become your opinion aint right, mine is.
no3.the message is there to read.
no4.it stops all possibilities of flame wars.
no5.its halo 3.
anything that can be used to hype halo 3 that little bit more or make sure we all become hypnotised and halo bots gets posted for someone to see so we dont forget.
why dont we make halo 3 launch day our national day of halo or something?
and to think halo 3 le was on sale here where i live,i thought they was supposed to be all sold out.i know off topic a bit.but, here where i live noone seemed to be getting excited.also i thought they was gonna bang up more servers.
i think they tripped over something or they was doing something and the server was turned off perhaps even an upgarde again.
sounds like someone just wants to keep the halo 3 hype bus wheels rolling to me.
remember everyone you can still get your halo 3 game today,it available for the rrp as normal.not the best game of the year, the best game of the DECADE.
waits for my bungie paycheque now.

send your x360 my way, i have friends that are seeing how fun the games are. i won't let a few things stop me from enjoying the games. 16months and not one issue with my system. I knew tons of people will be online trying to play. I am not surprised it went down. it could happen to anyone..it just happened to MS. then again that could be the underlying tone.. it's MS and nothing good is expected of them... right??

If not, why have a beta?
Xenogears V

another serious gap...an overload of the file servers was predictable... yet has not been done anything.:o

And they were only recently boasting how the beta allowed them to see what was needed with the online servers situation, they jinxed themselves with their comments didn't they lol.

The beta saw a fraction of users of what the actual game is seeing currently, so they could have prepared all they wanted, but it wouldn't have helped.

after all that lag on the network,it was bound to collapse.

If MS can predict the sales based on the pre-orders (and hype ), how come didn't see this coming?

ROFL!!!!!!! ahahaahahHHAHAHA!HAHA!HAH!HAHA! XDXDXDXDXD
MWAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
PWNED!!!!!!
That is hilarious, I never understood paying for a lag fest........ but then again we are talking about XbawTZ, bending over again and again and taking the M$ c0ck..... they must really love it, ROFL!!!!
You pay for a service which doesn't even work!!!! PWNED!!!
Well that just shows you how many people are trying to play, they will fix it and it will be back up and running, no problem.
Of course the ps3 servers will never crash because there aren't any games worth playing. Ps3 will never sell a game as much as halo 3 sold.

totally unacceptable in my books.. Paying customers would complain out the ying yang the SECOND their satellite goes down, their cell phone don't work.. Yet all these xbox fanboys are saying 'well, what do you expect? a lot of people like it, its understandable...'
If you are paying for a service, it shouldn't 'collapse' on you unless its beyond the control of the provider - like a power outage, lightning storm.. in this case, halo 3 is FAR from that, and the live subscribers shouldn't stand-by and put up with it.

MUAHAHAHAHA stupid XboTZ pay for Live and what happens? Yes thats right they get there ass stuffed again by some M1cR0$h@fT C0cK!
But XbotZ will never admit that they get Pwned by M1cR0$h@fT. Theyll just take the C0cK deeper and deeper every time!

also try warhawk.
you want to try looking at 32 players if i am not mistaken flying warhawks.it is pretty daunting when you spawn to have to afterburn to the action and you see the color bips turn to warhawks.
and there are more than enough matchs and players.
and no i aint no ps fanboy.i say my mind thats all.

Quick question though. I have always seen Warhawk as the #1 example when that comment is made, but are there any other solid examples though? I mean R:FoM is played online, but nowhere near Warhawk.
I was just thinking because although Warhawk is an awesome game and a great example, its just one game.

probably because resistance was owned played, clocked and i traded it for another game cos i did not want to update the fw to v1.92.
i got gengi and f1 and bought warhawk yesterday.
rented and clocked heavenly sword.
so speaking as a relative new comer to psn i can only comment on what i am seeing and experiencing.
that is what happens when you have xbox live, then the developer for the game has its own server, you need xbox live first to get on line, then you have to connect to the server of the game if it has one like ea has servers.then it gos down.dont mean that xbox live went down.or did it in this case?
it happens with ea sometimes with battlefield 2.
but,now if they still host or did host halo and halo 2 and now they got halo 3 as well it is a lot.
considering they/ms and a lot of people think they will sell lots and make a shed load of money they can put some of it to good use and do something about providing a reliable service for the games.
:)
As of this writing there are 550k people online on halo 3 so the game said.
No ps3 game ever will have that many people online at one time... fact is the multiplayer is awesome on this game no matter what anyone says who does or doesnt play it.

The only time I have ever had serious lag was in an EA game but that is not hosted through XBL because EA and MS don't go well together. EA games do not go through XBL because EA has vowed to keep them separate.

Oh give me a break...how quickly people forget Warhawk's launch just a month ago when people couldnt download it, servers went down, lag problems, etc...when there is a highly anticipated online game this kinda stuff happens...

Exactly, I got on about 11:30 last night and played till about 3am co-op campaign with no problems. Funny when people try to compare the millions on Live at one time to the thousands on PSN.
How many copies of Warhawk were sold? I would bet its safe to say less than a third of Halo 3 pre-orders.
