Now we only need to know how it works.

You plug the wire to your Wii, then your PC's GPU.

Now we only need to know how it works.

and why they are showcasing it with a gc title. Cool though. 22" LCD monitors are dirt cheap.

Where does it say that?

I've got a spare vga port on my LCD waiting for this! this is a definate buy for me!

edit: Ah crap! it looks like it won't support 480i. Looks like I'll have to use the VIVO on the PC for non-progressive games. Nintendo need to force a 480p standard.

Sorry, I was wrong. You plug it into your Wii, then you plug it into your monitor.

I'm rather surprised that it's not DVI - most monitors - TV type or computer - have DVI ports.

Right now, I'm about to look for a component video switcher so I can plug my PS3 and Wii into, and a 360 when I finally get one. My cheap HD only has 1 component in port - but it does have a DVI port.

DVI is digital, wii doesn't output any digital signal. the real question is: why the hell do they show a gamecube game?

So True, WTF is a GC game doing there :D, prolly no money for Wii games, or it works only for Cube Games :D (héhé)

Where does the green (sync line) cable get connected to?

^^ On their site, it shows connection to your TV.So I'm guessing you can use it to connect to your TV as well.

If its anything like the VGA cable I have for my gamecube it will only work in 480p.

What VGA box are you using? (I'm still searching for a good one!) ..

Anyway if you look at specifikations ( http://www.vdigi.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=2&category_id=3&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1 )

You'll see a maximum output resolution of 640 x 480 @ 60fps. Try setting your resolution on your VGA monitor to 640 x 480 and you'll have a clue how it would look like!!

Hence: On my 2 monitor's 19" and 22" it looks like sh.t! I'll say it would be the same for every monitor above 17"..

if VDIGI could provide a better output resolution it would be just perfect for my needs!

I know this may be good for some but in my view you need a big screen to play the Wii, or I should say I do at least. Playing the PC, 360, PS3 etc is fine on a monitor as thats how I use mine, but for me The bigger the screen the better for Wii games, and I personally don't care how bad the picture looks (though I use composite HD leads myself) so long as the screen is as big as possible (I did try a projector but kept getting int he way of it :()

I suppose though for GC games and for people with no free composite HD ports, the option to use VGA is handy.

Are you talking about the XCM 1080p box?

well i finally got it to show me the installation, and all i have to say is what the ****. the green line (tv sync) runs to your REGULAR TV. it then passes the sync levels to your VGA Monitor (since VGA monitors need the sync).

so that means if i do not have a TV by my VGA monitor then i have to run a long RCA extension cord to it.

So why would i plug in my wii into my VGA Monitor if i have my TV right there.

and i think that means your TV also has to be one as well.

the green line should not be RCA but a VGA/DVI pass-thru Dongle so you can plug it into your PC video card to get the sync level since typically your PC is going to be next to your VGA Monitor and not your TV.

or did i miss something?

my monitor or pc doesn't have the two red/white(yellow) compesite connectors for that audio to work with this wire.. but i guess any converter will allow me to stick it into my soundcards in-put socket in the back of my pc.
i can't wait for this!

your ps3 can go on the DVI. they make HDMI to DVI cables.

Yeah, but my TV sucks ass - 1080i cuts off the bottom and left side (makes it hard to read subtitled movies) when in DVI mode. My component cables should be here within a few days and I can test it out and see if that's better. (Rear projection TV that came with the house I'm renting, so I can't complain - but I will.)

I just recieved my cable in the mail today.... It got to the US in less then a week which i was a little surprised of....

First of all i didnt notice that the connector is female so you will need a standard vga cable to conect this cable to your monitor.... Not a big deal for me as one of my old 21" inch CRT's uses b/c connectors and i have several spare vga cables...

Now if you dont have your wii setup to display in 480p mode that is what the green plug is for... you can just plug it in the video port on your tv first and enable 480p with it. YOU HAVE TO DO THAT FIRST unless you have the wii component cable you should already have that set up. You dont need it afterwards.

Next I hooked this up to my MAG 22Wide LCD and I must say the picture was crystal clear... Iv'e used other vga boxes in the past for my xbox and ps2 and the quality on those were never that good especially on an lcd (They looked like crap to be blunt). I enabled the widescreen aspec ratio on the wii and it displayed fine.

I tried a few Gamecube games and they displayed fine...
Virtual Console games displayed too.

So far i give this cable a thumbs up. I've never used the XCM box so I can't say which is better.

Uh, so can you confirm whether or not the cable allows you to display games in high resolution. Also, if you CAN display games in high-res, does that apply to Gamecube games as well? And since Progressive Scan is activated after a GC game starts up, how does it still display GC games in high resolution? There are a few GC games I wanna buy, and high-res would be a HUGE incentive for me. I really want to see what Baten Kaitos Origins is like in 1280x1024. Thanks.

The WII does not support "High-Resolution" and no box or cable will change that.

What you will get is the WII video signal sent to a device that is capable of much faster refresh rates, widescreen support, and progressive scan display without having to invest in a HD TV.

480p gets rid of some of the jaggieness around the edges and makes for a sharper picture, but doesn't actually increase the resolution at all.

So no, you won't be playing any of your GC or WII titles at 1024x768, but you can play them on a much better quality display device.

I think this is only useful for people that do not have HD TV's because those already use the techniques that give the much clearer picture, something your traditional analog TV will never do.

As far as the poster who commented that most monitors have DVI ports... I just bought a new monitor and did quite a bit of shopping. Most do NOT include DVI unless it is a higher end display. A few have dual VGA inputs, a handful have DVI, a couple have HDMI, and I found a whopping 1 with DisplayPort.

Wait, so can I not use this cable without a TV? That doesn't really make sense, but reading through the thread confused me. If so, does anyone know of any kind of cable or converter so I can connect the Wii directly to my computer monitor (without using a TV)?

I recently bought this cable and it works well. Attached is a copy of the user's manual for any that have questions.
The cable works well on both Wii and GC games. I mainly bought this so that I can make use of an 21' crt I had wasting away. Since I don't have a hdtv this works well for me.

You only need the tv if the wii has not been set to edtv or hdtv. you only need to do this once. read the manual i attached that should explain better.

My tv has vga and hd component video connectors, I'm using component at the moment. Is this cable better than component or will I get similar results ? :)
