View Full Version : Jap PSP - right speaker not working after downgrade

OK, just downgraded another PSP, this time a brand new Japanese Silver model which came preinstalled with 3.40.

Now the right speaker doesn't work. Occasionally, the working speaker (the left one, obviously) becomes VERY VERY QUIET too - usually only for a few seconds.

Headphone output is fine. Could this be somehow related to the software, or is it more likely a (coincidental) hardware issue? For the record it reports as a TA082/086, is currently on 3.52M33-4 and has clean keys (using custom IPL).

Has this happened to anyone else?

Restore to defaults

Tried that, from the XMB, and also the "format flash1" from recovery.

Although (duh) I just realised that the left speaker only "alternates in volume" when I'm covering the damn hole with my finger (haha) - I always thought the PSP speakers were those "holes" on the bottom of the front face, not the ones on the bottom strip!

Still nothing from the right one though.

Downgrade to 1.5.... see if it reverts back to normal.... then go to 3.52M33

Try downgraded it to 3.40-OE and test it.

It's behaving the same way in 1.50... I'll try 3.40-OE tomorrow (too knackered now), but I'm inclined to believe this to be a hardware issue by now...

Bugger, I haven't got a clue how to replace PSP speakers :/

Ridiculously, this evening the speaker is working perfectly, and I haven't changed a damn thing - I haven't even touched it since last night until now.

Obviously neither software nor hardware is to blame. I'm now thinking gremlins.

well, install 3.71 and see if it works again.
if it doesn't work, it's hardware problem. get it traded to new one.
if it works again, just downgrade it using pandora battery.

If it was me, I would just blow or suck the air out of the bottom hole (however perverted or ridiculous that sounds).

That helped me once, when one of my PSP speakers started to 'scrreeatch'.
