The latest weekly hardware sales figures have been released for the region of the Japan and they show that the DS has gone under the 100k mark for the first time in the year and the Wii has experienced 39,371 unit sales which is quite disappointing by its normal standards. The PSP followed in with 22,196 units while the PS3 gained a little with sales of 18,068 units during the past week. The Xbox 360 performed miserably with 1,635 units. So what is the deal with the Wii? Is the novelty wearing off in Japan or do these figures confirm that Nintendo has been diverting stock to North America at Japan's expense?

Latest Japanese weekly hardware sales

DSL 94,339

Wii 39,371

PSP 22,196

PS3 18,068

PS2 14,280

Xbox360 1,635

All time low is still double the PS3 figures and 20x the 360 figures. :D

I'm sure Nintendo are crapping themselves.

They are diverting. They did it with the DS lite making it hard to find in the US well after the holiday season and now they are doing it in reverse with the Wii. Japan is the smaller market and it'll be easier to satiate them when they return with higher stock after selling to the demand of the rest of the world.

Perhaps the novelty of waving around a stick that makes the character randomly jump around is fading. Wii is a toy that suites 8 year old children cheering "MARIO!" in a cute voice.

I bought wii at the release but it is collecting dust. got a PS3 now. Enjoying blue ray movies and Warhawk.

The wii graphics looks like CRAP on my 90" screen. ITS 2007 WHERE IS MY HD RESOLUTION?... BAH

I still don't get why you sony fan boys come over here, it's great an' all that you like waving around your 90" e-penis enhancing screen, but you're useless and naught but annoying here.

So, you paid 250 and are upset that it's collecting dust. Then you paid 600 to play one game and watch movies? To each his own.
Wipe the dust off your Wii and go get Metroid Prime.

The Wii was never meant to look amazing on a 90" screen. Maybe if you did a little research before throwing your money around, you would have figured that out.
Enjoy your $600 dollar blu-ray and Warhawk player.

I guess that the sales will rise again when new titles such as MarioKart and others will be released. It could also be that the market is already saturated - at least for the moment, but certainly there will be new Wii customers with upcoming hard- and software or enhanced functionality.
People just also have to understand, as Nintendo tries to keep telling, that the Wii is not made to compete with the XBOX360 or the PS3. There are certainly a lot of people who have more than one console at home. At the price of the Wii you don't have to think so much about adding it to your 600$ PS3! What is expensive though is the games, but still Wii games are cheaper than PS3 or XBOX360 titles.

Hey Zeus, you might want to remember that you posted a news a few weeks ago about Nintendo taking Wii units from Japan to ship 'em to the states... What about that huh?

He has that in his post, at the very end...
Maybe you should try reading the whole thing before posting.

Have you played Metroid: Corruption? I will have to admit I was beginning to lose interest in the Wiimote, but I am loving the Metroid controls. Make sure you set the "sensitivity" to "Advanced" in the options. The other sensitivities are a little less demanding on your ability to keep your hand steady, but they also don't offer near as much fine-control.

Also, I have a 104" screen, and the Wii looks perfectly fine. It's just like a slightly fuzzier version of PS3 graphics. I mean, no, the Wii doesn't "show off" a HD display, but to say it looks like crap is just moronic. It doesn't look like crap anymore than upscaled DVD's look like crap.

the wii is a fad discuss

yeah like the ds right? thats only been a fad since it came out as well.

for one it looks like nintendo is diverting wii's from japan to the USA, which is why the numbers last month for wii where so amazing in the USA. also this is usually a fairly slow time for gaming. and with those two things combined the wii still sold nearly 40,000 in japan. so they are still going to sell around 160,000 wii's if rest of the weeks are that slow.

i think nintendo is trying to do something really smart though. people keep saying the wii is going to take a long time to catch the 360 sales in the USA. all of a sudden it looks like they are only 1.5 to 2.0 million away after selling the 400,000 wii's in the USA last month. i think nintendo wants to be first in every region in sales before Christmas not only for bragging rights but for advertising during the Christmas holliday. and it looks like they will probably be able to pull that off.

why would anyone worry about this? The initial interest for a console usually lasts a few weeks, a month at best and then sales normalise, peaking only at christmas time and when they do price cuts. After 10 months the Wii interest is only just showing sighs of slowing, even selling better than the PS2.

Its not like sells for other systems picked up a lot so no cause for concern.

There's nothing to be concerned about. We don't know whether or not Nintendo is diverting stock but either way, if the console can actually be found in Japanese stores, it's most likely due to the Summer season. This is very typical and sales will return to normal heading up towards Christmas.

Or maybe Nintendo is hording stock for the Christmas season to make sure most people can have a happy Christmas morning ;)

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Just like all the jackasses were shouting that the DS was a fad?

Now they cant say sh*t as the DS is even kicking the Wii's ass, so do yourself a favour and pull your head out of your hole before you smother yourself.

well considering everyone is selling pretty crappy and the wii is still selling the most ide say the wii isnt losing interest but japan seems to be having a slow month in hardware sales period.

Who the hell buys consoles in August/September anyways?

I mean seriously, school started and people who have jobs are back to work after a Summer vacation if they had one.

Still it is outselling the PS3 and 360, so no big deal there. Wait till November sales will increase again for the holiday rush. Wii will continue to dominate sales.

Excellent point. It'd be more surprising if sales didn't drop at this time of the year.

So are "casual gamers" just going to leave Wii for a better time on the PS3.

dream on, sony fanboys!

it's strange, there aren't many wii or 360 fanboys bashing each other. most are sony and go after everything not labeled sony

I saw a few weeks ago a news article that stated the Wii outselling the PS3 6:1.

Last week I saw a news article starting the Wii outselling the PS3 3:1.

Today I see this and the Wii outselling the PS3 2:1.

Either they are sending WAY too many Wii's over seas or the PS3 is slowly beginning to eat into their sales.

Nintendo fans stay quiet because they don't need to say anything. Nintendo are devouring the 360's sales and now MS is hanging onto their nuts rambling about Wii60.

Good point. You notice how Microsoft all of a sudden is promoting the "Wii60" tag line. I find it funny considering Microsoft never said anything about "Wii60" when the 360 was ahead in sales.

But now that the wii is ahead, Microsoft has jump the wagon and is now promoting "Wii60"

It's funny how things turn out.
