View Full Version : Gamers down under are getting fed up of Nintendo - lengthy game delays
Gamers in South Pacific regions such as Australia are becoming increasly fed up by Nintendo's lengthy game delays. Titles such as Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Paper can take around TWELVE WEEKS to hit Australia after being released in US/Europe. They are concerned that on other systems, publishers seem to be working hard to create simultaneous worldwide launches such as Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 but Nintendo is guilty of neglect when it comes to the South Pacific.
Doesn’t sound too bad, does it? Well, the thing is, I am getting screwed over, and if you live anywhere near me, you are too. Wii software release dates in New Zealand, Australia, and all other countries in the South Pacific region have become absurd. The delays between the English-version US release and the local release of the exact same game is becoming unacceptably long. Months pass before all the best Wii software titles even get a glimpse in on these shores. With games like Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Super Paper Mario being released upwards of 12 weeks later, and with games like Super Smash Brothers: Brawl not being anticipated for a release here till next year, the problem is expanding. Many third party publishers seem to be able to push out game titles a lot quicker then Nintendo, and other consoles get far more efficient times. Halo 3 for the Xbox 360 is planning to be released on the same day as its US counterpart!
Consumers in my position are being bulled and forced into this position, and I have had enough with it. To this end, I constructed a formal report detailing this situation.

one guy bitching does not a news story make. the fact that a internet gaming site reports on it does not a news story make. if there were multiple sources, strikes, dipping sales, or at least something to pay credence to this "gamers down under getting fed up with Nintendo" nonsense, then maybe I'd understand. As it is, this is about as much a news story as me getting upset that Japan gets a lot of systems/games before we do as well.

The Wii does have a very small software library and an ever growing list of titles & delays..nintendo need to rectify this..

I still, seriously don't understand why it's region locked.
Sony did the absolute must and totally unlocked the PS3 and even Microsoft releases most A+ XBOX360 titles without any region locking.
Everything nintendo did with the WII, from price, through poor lineup, to region locking and release date scandals, makes one doubt their commitment to gamers.

C'mon people. This guy has one hell of a point.
Nintendo brags about how easy their console is to develop for yet they have more delays than both MS and Sony combined. Expecially on games that have been worked on for up to 4 years.
Explain this Nintendo. This is the same crap that killed GC and N64.

For that $249.99 investment I made with Nintendo the damn thing has been sitting at my girlfriends house untouched since WarioWare. The game only lasted me 2 hours as well before completing it.
Other than 1st party titles, what exactly is worth my money? If 1st party is all they do, better to have it on my PS3 or 360.
Stick to handhelds if they intend to keep up with this ****. The thing sells and sells and sells, yet there is nothing for me to play at all.
My PS3 has better games for me to play than my Wii. Nintendo must have forgot that I grew up since the NES and SNES.
They have done wonders with the NDS however. Touch Detective and Magical Starsign held my attention for quite a while, plus SE is on ship with them for my beloved old school Final Fantasy remakes.
Why can't they do the same with their console? I am begging for a reason to dust this little box off and give it some serious playing time.
No mention of MP : 3 though, I am no fan of FPS, the reason XBox 360 looks like a waste of money in my eyes. RPG is where it's at!!!

There are many other Wii games that diserve mention other than the 2hr long wario ware.
Anyone who considersers game delays a scandal, needs to find something else to do. This **** happens.. Certain regions get catered to more than others.. Quite simply becuase more money is to be made in US and Japan..
DS took over a year to get its killer software lineup even started... Not to mention its online was a year later too.. The Wii is off to a much faster start.. I dont know what all the crying is aboot.

I'd guess it's a piece of cake to write software for, but getting a usable interface using the wii-mote would take a shitload more usability testing than devs are used to. where they used to only have to worry about a relatively simple button layout, now they have to think about human motion and intuitiveness.

Why is this? hmm....
Japan = Home of Nintendo, so disregard this one.
US = Modchips illegal.
EU = Modchips somewhat illegal.
AU = Modchips legal.
