hey everyone, im a newb here, and i been lurking around for a while, now finally decide to get the ds over the psp. I just got a couple really dumb questions if anyone can help.

What's ds ONYX? whats the difference between ONYX and regular ds LITE?

also to play ROM, all i need is to buy the R4, Micro SD, load the approiate kernel from r4ds.net in to SD root, download roms (DS section only right?), then load Roms into Sd cards right?

am I missing anything?
I won't need to do the toothpick with foil thing anymore?
Will this void the warranty?

im assuming if i want to play gba games also, i would need emulator and slot 2 card right?

Thanks alot

I've never heard of the ONYX, so I'm guessing it's just a different color DS Lite.

And yes, for nearly all games you can do what you described to get them to run on your DS. There are a couple of games that require really fast microSD cards or else they freeze up, but they are few and far between.

The toothpick+foil thing is the installation of FlashMe. While you could install it if you wanted, its main use was for slot-2 devices, so you don't need to install it at all with an R4.

If you want to add GBA gaming to the mix, a good solution would be the EZ-V 3in1 expansion pack, which is very cheap and works with your slot-1 device to add GBA compatibility, Opera DS RAM support, and rumble support.

Thanks so much, that was exactly the answer i was looking for.

by the way i figuered out onyx just means shinny black one.

What would constitute as a super fast sd card?

o and where is a cheap place to get the new black ds lite?

thanks

For a fast microSD card, you'd basically want a Kingston or Toshiba made in Japan and NOT Taiwan. I know the ones RealHotStuff sells are guaranteed to be fast enough, though I'll bet other stores would be willing to check if you asked.
