View Full Version : LOL: KickStart gives you the power to launch homebrew on your PSP for $60!
Yes that's right folks, KickStart gives you the power to launch homebrew on your PSP and even install custom firmwares or downgraders. You don't even need to indulge in any soldering to install the KickStart and there is no need to open the PSP. OK, enough of the SARCASM (as we all know, you don't need a 'product' to perform the features of the 'KickStart'). In all seriousness, we received a press release from a Chinese company who producing something known as the 'Kickstart', while there is no actual indication of what the product is, there is absolutely no need for it in any case and it is most likely just a memory stick with homebrew files on it. Any other ideas as to what this magical product could be? Perhaps a compact disc, or even a set of instructions...

Here is the e-mail we received...
Please see our offer for a hot new product for the PSP accessory market.
This new one lets homebrew and custom sotwares load on the regular PSP without any modifications. I think that your market for a product like this one is very big. Price is very reasonable to sell to end user for about $60.

lol I bet on the back of the box it says: WARNING this will only work on 3.50 or lower firmware version. its prob just a memstick filled with brew and downgraders etc. :p

Got to wonder about the image branding in ref to the url. Probably a fake or funnier a memstick full of brickers. "This is perfect for psp owners"... well we are waiting for more games and less sloppy development right :p

I was thinking that it would be a UMD disc which could boot homebrew, but the term in that add "snap-in" threw me off. :-/ (though that could just be bad engrish though, lol)
Lmao this looks funny... bet its just mem stick with downgraders on etc, for <=3.50

It could also be a clone of those batteries SONY use to downgrade or fix bricked PSPs.

would be cool if it was a jigkick but i highly doubt it. can you imagine the lawsuit this chinese company would face? really tho, what else could it be? it says 'snap-in kickstart and boot your psp into system launcher mode'. what the hell is system launcher mode? there's gotta be something to this other than just a dumbass product that would require lumines and/or gta to even work. think about it...how would the software or whatever it is work without being able to load homebrew in the first place?

could it be something like the "magic battery"

i was thinking the same, the way it says "snap-in the kickstart" kind of gives that impression too

:DI bet once it comes out Sony will block the UMD or MSk unless Sony cant. If this is true buy PSP slim right when it comes out because 3.60 supports it. :D
I bet it doesnt even have the latest frim update on it if its a UMD. If this is released this will be a great breakthrough for new and old hackers of the Psp. Sony on the otherhand doesnt allow the kinds of things to hit the market easily as it seems. For Example Ebay user 1 1/2 year back tryed selling official Sony developing tool and Umd buning computer for the psp was holted by Sony and Ebay once they knew. On the other hand though the Ds Hombrew and Backup loader Catridge is on the shelves of Walmart. Could happen Could not. But im happy :D

if it is such a Batery it would be very nice as there are no problems with bricking anytime in future
But i don't think so
maybe such a UMD (maybe a ecact Copy of Lumines UMD with an Memorystick filled with homebrew)
I don't know
but I think it's less than expected (e.g. a CD with some progs and tools)

First Vast, now this, after I read the name i thought of the jigkick battery, that would justify the price tag of 60 dollars. Let's hope that both products are real.

At first I thought this was just a CD loaded with files for the user to be confused with.
The more I think about it though... jigkick = Kickstart????
Hey, they both have the word "kick" in them. It will be interesting to learn more about this but I have serious doubts.

The word Kick must be the key.
it makes me think jigkick right away.
It boots into system launcher mode? like the youtube video?

would it really be a surprise to anyone if a chinese company reverse engineered the jigkick battery and sold their own cheaper version online?
welcome to chinese economics 101 people.

Well in the ad pic they mentioned "snap on/in" to boot into "system launcher mode" so it does sound like a jigkick of some sort, if this is all real ;D

Well if it is the jigkick, at the price they are suggesting, I would be suprised if a mem stick ( a genuine one anyways) would be included, maybe a CD to install the files to your mem stick so you can use it.
Anyways, if it does as it says so, for $60 USD (i guess) it's deffo sth I will buy!!

I will buy one if someone can find a trust worthy GBP site for it :)
none the less this sound intresting lol
Edit. IF snap is not a miss use of bad english then it cud be a umd seeing as they make a snap sound when u shut the tray... and remember all the pron that was made in japan on umd video???? so i wrckon it wudent be hard for em to get hold of UMD's
Seeing as its' 60$ its more likely to be a UMD than a battery... I don't think they wud make an installer CD and sell it 4 60$ to be honest. so fingers crossed

Look at the info in the down right corner. Is has the "don't throw in the garbage" symbol. I'm almost sure it's battery.

Just hope its a clone of the magic battery it is made in china so it could be.
Also i agree with u Veskgar thats exactly wat i though wen i first saw the name of it jig - kick - start

shame its not a UMD disk with a homebrew loader that allows loads from memory stick... without the UMD from memory stick ability would do me fine... as I just want the homebrew ability...
gonna be interesting to see if it turns up and works easily, go for it :)

it would be better if it were a UMD rather than the battery, for two main reasons:
1- the battery wouldn't have any chance to work on the new psp slim as I recall the two batteries are not compatible
2- do we pop in the battery just to downgrade de-brick and such, or do we have to keep it in all the time to use homebrew and all?
I really REALLY wouldn't trust my psp to a 'god knows where it came from' battery...

I can't say about the test mode, but I am positive the battery from current model PSP fits in the slim model, being the one and only inconvenience the fact it requires a new battery cover that makes the slim version bulkier.
It was a Sony rep that stated that.

this might be handy - it might not. who knows.

I think it will be something like a copy from the original sony "unbrick battery" .
Chinese dont really care about copying things from sony (Memorystick anybody ?!) so i see a good possibility for this thing to hit the market .

The magic battery has been showing up in the cheap clones for a while. The difference between a real jigkick and a clone is the ability to restore IDStorage. IDStorage is very rarely damaged in a PSP. Out of all the PSP's I have repaired only 2 have had IDStorage problems.
Search ebay.co.uk for "unbricking" to see a clone for sale.

According to Joystiq I think it was (they did a side by side pre-preview) the the 2 batteries are compatible.. the only problem is the new PSP battery is thinner so if you use a normal PSP battery you wont be able to put on the battery cover.

I'd try it if were sold from a reputable site and the shipping charges weren't too bad.
