Hi,

I have the sping 2007 dashboard.

I wish to play MP4 on it.. but i'm asked for the Optional Media Update to be downloaded.

My console is banned.. therefore cannot go get it on LIVE....

is there any way to manually install it.. from CD, HD, PC or USB ??

the ps3 allows that but dont know about the 360

have you tried xbox.com? they have the major dash updates for download so I'd be surpriseed if youcouldn't get the mp4 update from there as well ;)

I think that this method only includes major dashboard updates, not optional updates. I could be wrong though.

I think you just have to be signed into your profile to play mp4, I'm not sure tho. My system is always online and I know that if I go to play an mp4 before it signs into live it won't play but once it signs in its fine. I don't know if it just needs to sign into live or just the profile tho since I'm always on live and its hardly ever down.

what are optional updates?

The media update that adds new codec support to the 360 is the only optional update that I'm aware of, but it's an update that has to be downloaded separately after updating the dashboard, and you won't be prompted to install the update until you try to play one of the new media types. I'm not sure why this update wasn't included in this Spring's dashboard update since it was a listed feature of the dashboard update.
