Wii Just 20k sales away from world domination?

According to VGChartz, the Nintendo Wii is just 20,000 sales away from becoming the most dominant 'next-generation' console. As things stand, their estimates indicate the Wii has sold 10.41 million units in comparison to 10.43 million Xbox 360's sold.

YESSS the 360 has risen, 3 months ago they were well under 10 million, now they are almost 10.5 million consoles sold.

Also no this site was NEVER charged with being agenda driven, that was xbox fanboys who started all that crap, but after a while they relised they were wrong, well some of them anyway.

They are very close to the real numbers, and if they are of by any then VGchartz always updates with the proper numbers.

Someone said that it doesent help that the 360 aint selling in japan, the fact is that the 360 aint really selling anywhere eccept America and even there at times the numbers are piss-poor.

This was un-avoidable, the wii was always gonna over-take the 360 but i think it surprized the lot of us how quickly it has actually done it.

Same here, its getting very boring without actual games to play. They could sell as many consoles as they like and win by miles for all I care but without games worth playing its winning nothing worthwhile to anybody but fanboys and shareholders.

I would go so far as to say its in third place in my eyes with ps3 doing better by having games worth playing so second and 360 in a sweat spot with some nice releases so first.

I definitely contributed to the numbers in all 3 categories! I can understand why the Wii is out-selling both since it really appeals to a larger demographic than the other 2 systems and costs 1/2 the price.

I too am waiting for games for the Wii, as well as the PS3! Of all 3 systems, the 360 is the one I play the least. In fact, it's on my shelf collecting dust. If it weren't for the year headstart it had, I don't think the number would have been as high. If all of them were released at the same time, the results would definitely be different.

Not being a fanboy about this ... but since I actually have all 3, I think I have a right to state a biased opinion ... :p

I got a wii and play it maybe every 2 months for 15min, then its back to the 360 you just cant beat it. Now that they have got them working with out burning up every 10min i am vary happy with mine. The Wii is a fad and it is dieing fast. Yes its going to keep selling because you play wii sports and think **** all my freind must buy one and try this out. but then you try other games and they just suck. Most of the time you can not get the people on FPS to do what you want. And on games like Mario party 8 most of the time you player does not move. I just wish i could use my game cube controller for the Wii games then i would be happy.

Did you even read my reply? I awnsered your question, and i aint a fanboy at all, i like Nintendo and Sony, but i never even mentioned that in my reply but anyway i will awnser your new questions.

The numbers be released every month in america, every week in japan/asia and its abit harder to get europes but they be released from different countrys every month or 2 + Nintendo/Sony/MS release their figures every now and then also, so thats where all the numbers add up from.

MS sometimes will tell you the correct sold numbers although most times they tell you their 'Shipped' numbers instead meansing they will say they have sold 11.6 million consoles even though they didnt and alot of them are sitting in shops and warehouses etc.

So i hope that explains were the numbers come from.

Considering the 1 year head start, and how little that difference in sales is, its not that impressive at all...

I like my wii better than ANY other consoles, thats both the PS3 and the 360.

You can ask scorpion3 or anyone else who i talk/argue with and they will tell you if im a PS3 fanboy or not, infact they would tell you that i like Nintendo more than the PS3.

If the Wii wasant hacked it would be one or even two millions lower on sales. It would still be doing a amazing job, but not enought to catch Xbox 360 this year.

The Ps3 uses Blueray, which is an expensive media that you can't backup yet. The owner of a Gamestore here told be that he won't sell Ps3 because he wouldn't be able to sell games for it. 2 or 3 for each console at most. He told that he sells 70 Wii backups games for 1 original Ps3 game, and that he hasn't sold a original Wii game in 6 months.

He also told me that hacking the PS3 to play games from the HD won't do any good either. He wants a console which he can make money selling copied games. For the PS3 he expect people to download the games directly to the HD. He will only sell Wii and Xbox 360 until he can copy blueray games for a cheap price.

You really think there are 9 million people hacking their Wii? I dont know what evidently pirate infested part of the world you live in, but where I live I know about 3 dozen people with Wii's and only know 1 with a wiikey installed. He's a looser who wont buy a console unless he can pirate on it and wouldnt buy a game if his life depended on it so I dont really count him anyway. Believe it or not overall folks that mod their consoles and pirate their games are very small. Even with the wide open dreamcast just by numbers of titles sold its evident that more purchased their games than pirated them. The reason the Wii is selling so well is because its accessable to everyone from kids to grandmothers. My parents own one, both of my sisters families have them, brother in laws family has one...practically everyone I know owns one but none of them are pirating games with it. Now most of them only have wii sports and wii play too...but attach rate for the wii is a whole different story. Im sure that once the ps3 is hacked it will make a little bump in sales but pirates on the whole give themselves entirely too much credit in what they think is a contribution to a consoles success.

Well said. If pirates are making any impact on game sales, Nintendo could easily release a patch to put them all out of business.
