Hi all,
I'm a noob 2 this modding lark so forgive me if these are stupid questions :)
I have a v1.5 xbox and I stuck in the xecuter 2.6 ce chip with the adaptor.
Burnt the 4983 bios on dvd disc.
So far so good, everything works; the xbox bootup screen comes up with xbox and xecuter 2 at the bottom.
Games play fine etc.
Now being new to this, I was reading a tutorial online about making the bios 1 mb.
In my hast and over excitment of getting stuck in, I didn't realise this covered both bank 1 and 2.
Can I reflash the bios with one made up of 512k (bank 1) 4983 and 512K (bank2) some linux booting bios?
And can this be done without a programmer?
I hunted online and all the reflashing stuff I found covered new flashes, can anyone recommend somewhere for me to read up on reflashing?
any help greatly appreciated.
cheers
Z

switch ur bank to whatever bank ur not currently using to see if u have the "flashbios 3.0.3" still on if u don't then u will need a programmer i think. if not keep going. u want to visit the teamxecuter.com site for the tool ur looking for. its in the download section u want to get flashbios manager and flashbios 3.0.3.
i am not sure which bios works with linux because i've only used x2 bios and they seem to boot xdsl just fine.

Thanks for the reply.
It was the 3.0.1 on chip, don't know if that makes a difference.
Both banks are the 4983 bios now, I'd had a problem getting the box to recognise the bios (but in hindsight I think that was a media problem) so I'd read up and somewhere had said I needed to make a 1mb file.
Which as it turns out has overwritten both banks.
Is a programmer the only way, I kinda figured that since the chip had the ability to write the bios itself the first time that the functionality to write a new bios to the chip would exist.
Maybe by putting some software and new bios on the box itself and writing from there!!!!!
lol.... I'm probably just grasping at straws here.

Maybe you could use the bios flasher included in Evolution-X, just be sure and turn your "protect" switch to disable or unprotect, I can't remember which one it is. Then boot your box into evox ftp the two 512 files into the c:\bios folder on your box, reboot. Then just flash.
If you can't find the flash bios option under system utilities, then you will have to rewrite the evox.ini file. If you don't know how I can rewrite it for you. just attach it in this thread and I will download it and re-upload it with the option enabled.
Hope this helps.

your easiest way will be to get hold of a slayers auto -installer disk, boot the xbox up with the disk in the drive, this will allow you to either run the install (which should install evolution x and apps etc etc or allow you to manually ftp into the xbox and install evolution x)
we`ll go for the auto installer option, use the slayers installer disk to install evolution x onto your xbox.
boot your xbox with the bank select switch on 1.
once done FTP into your xbox and look at the C drive.
Tutorial for FTP here
http://www.consoleworkshop.co.uk/Tutorials/Xbox%20FTP.php
check the C drive to make sure you have a folder called "BIOS" if there isnt one creat one (right click > make folder)
then FTP over your cromwell flash bios file (512k in size) to the C:\BIOS\ folder.
once done restart xbox, and on the menu find the "flash bios" option.
Im a little shaky on slayers discs, as i use a custom edited disk, so not too sure of the layout.
find the "flash bios" option
switch the bank switch to 2 on your xecuter 2.x switchs
now under evolution x`s flash bios option, find the cromwell bios you just FTP`ed over and select it to flash, once flashed, restart the xbox, the cromwel bios should load, if it does shut down xbox and swith the bank select switch over to 1 and reboot , your xecuter 4983 bios should now load.
Now i do remember that on some slayers discs it doesnt install the option to flash the bios in the evox.ini , but rather only lets you if you boot from the disk, if this is the case, attach the evox.ini file to this post and i`ll edit it for you so you can flash from the installed copy of evox.
hope this helps (its early lol)
