View Full Version : Nintendo DS Emulation comes to PSP but slowly
A Japanese homebrew developer known as SofiyaCat has ported a DS Emulator called DeSmuME over to the PSP. Of course it is very slow and not able to run anything remotely well but hopefully could be the start of an exciting project. The following screen shows the PSP running a homebrew DS game known as GeoWars.

Instructions on how to install
* Move the 150 folder contained in the archive to GAME or GAME150 on your memory stick.
* Download a DS homebrew game
* Rename the game’s NDS file to test.nds
* Move the test.nds to the 150 folder.
* Navigate to the Game menu on your PSP and start the emulator. The game will load automatically.

Right, I'll just assume the PSP has touchscreen now. How else am I going to play my games then? Like DS emulators on my PC, using my mouse for the pen? PSP supports a mouse too now??

nobody will bother to other than for the purpose of showing off its useless. the psp has no method of input for the touch screen. the pc has a mouse to emulate touching the screen. the psp doesnt so it renders it pretty useless.

It would be impossible to play, anyway no DS owners want to emulate PSP games, all the good games are already on the DS.

this isnt rly big news to me... i have a ds that can play all kinds of homebrews *if ya get my drift lol* so yeah... and plus all the good games requires touching the 2nd screen, so how would the PSP do that? I'm not hating on the person who made this, yeah he/she did a good job but, i wouldn't use it even if it reach perfect emulation... which i doubt.

WTF IS THE FECKING POINT IN A NDS EMU ON A PSP?!
This is instant FAIL!
1) No Touch Screen(s)!
2) The PSP only has the One Screen!
So yeah this will sure prove to be about as useful as an Unuseful Thing lol
What's next Wii-mulation?!
Christ!!

people on this forum arent very creative at all, so what if it isnt touch screen or got a mouse, you could probley display a curser where the bottom screen is displayed and control it with the analogue and use the music key to press on the screen, there ive solved it that wasnt hard. It obviously gonna be very hard to use but so what i find it hard to use on the pc, its never gonna be as easy to use as the actual ds but still its just proving what can be done with the psp.

There are quite a few ds games with useless bottom screen function and can be fully controlled with just buttons.
I will always prefer playing directly on a ds however i appreciate whats being done, if sony can hack psone games to work on one analog nub then why not this?

wow.. Did I say it..
I know i did..
DAMN is that gonna burn the DS fanboys as I see it already is.. haha
montana90, you're exactly right. I'm pretty sure that some creative bloke will figure out a nice way to bypass the touch screen. By the sounds of it the DS promotes molestation.. people always complaining about not using the touch screen...
even if it doesn't reach full speed, excellent job, excellent port and a big kudos for doing something people said would never happen

I have tested 2 games, the loadings are endless and the audio goes to tears.
Judgment 2/10.

Xenogears why give it a thumbs down icon?
I don't agree with you and also with other comments similar to yours.....
noone said this is a fully functional emulator...the developer mentioned this is an experimental project!
I find it really good as a concept, idea and execution!
More programming is definetely needed but that doesn't mean the effort is bad.
Its great to know that psp can emulate the ds engine even really slow....who knows maybe in the future we will see more of it!
The good thing is that the emulator as mentioned in other sites can run homebrew for ds which is also a plus.
Anyway thanks to the developer and keep this project alive...maybe something good come up.....;)

Wouldnt that cause another problem, the way the psp is hold for the ds emu makes it so that you wont be able to use all the buttons and i doubt u would be able to hold ur psp the normal way for a ds emu cause the screen aint big enough.

i already thought: when does someone come up with this?
i don't think this wil ever run at a good speed. although having mario kart ds would be nice:)

i hardly doubt it if anything they are probably impressed psp users are that desperate to play ds games on the psp. good luck trying to find ANY way around the touch screen with the fact you have to rotate your psp to play the ds games unless your montaro or sheeva i doubt you can pull off a usable scheme.

Ahh, as predicted. Lots of versions of the classic DS owner insecurity replies. How cute.
As for 2 screens. Count the pixels. One PSP screen > 2x DS screen pixel-wise.
Touchscreen? Overhyped and underused on the DS. No biggie. The analogue nub on the PSP goes a ways to emulating that anyway.
Cry cry cry DS owners.

Wasn't someone once working on a hardware mod to add touch capabilities to the psp once? hey we had GPS capabilities before the official release by sony, so it's not that far fetched to think someone can come up with a touch screen solution like the kits they sell for a PC's CRT. Well whatever happens with this I think it's a good idea, and even better effort.
For all the nay sayers saying his wasting his time and such, I doubt that he is. An idle mind is the devil's playground, so let the guy excite his brain cells as he pleases. Will it ever be decent, probably not, but it's not impossible. To sum up the way I feel about this I'll say this: You never know until you try..... sometimes repeatedly.

From what I could understand he released the source in the new version, and hopes that someone reliable will either continue or help in in his project.
Also, he says this is very experimental, and the beta name for the aplication is "It's the cat" :D
My japanese could be better :o
EDIT: He states that there is no button imput, so you can't control what's on the screen, only look at it.

my lord! you fanboys can really be delusional sometimes. an "emulator" that only barely runs a low spec homebrew game that you cant even interact with. you really think anyone is shedding tears over this?
