Thank you for posting this. The only really I wasn't updating was because of the WiiKey config disc not working. Once again, I really appreciate this post.

Anyone tested it ?
Is it the 1.2 ? or 1.1
How do you made it ?

can you still use the reset button. Or do you really have to use a gamecube controller
you need a gamecube controler to toggle to the gcos menu, after that you can use the reset button

Hi, thanks for the ISOs, but you should change the topic title for something more informative, like "New WiiKey 1.2 setup disc / Works with 3.0"

Well it definitely is the wiikey config disc but I haven't tried it with Update 3.0 yet since I haven't quite downloaded it myself yet.
If anyone has tried it with the 3.0 update please let us know how your results turned out.

Nice work. Let's hope this is the most that the update will affect us all.
I'm also curious to know your method to recompile the setup discs.

i have a ntsc usa wii with wiikey in it. i have tried burning this new set up disc 2 times with nero and imgburn and i cant get it to work. the disc is recognized as a game disc in the wiii but when i hit start i get the disc read error. im using sony dvd-r and trying to burn it from my laptop dvd+-rw. any suggestions? tired of making coasters.....
Just burn with img burn and burn with speed 4x
Also you did burn the ~4.3 gig iso right?!
nitsud707
08-07-2007, 04:33 PM
i tried to burn the image first with nero and it was a no go. the wii would recognize the disc as gamecube then when i hit start it would say disc read error. so then i burned the same iso image again with imgburn at 4 speed like it said and same problem. so im stumped.
hmm you did apply the kkwarez.exe?
and burn the kkw.Wiikey.1.2.USA.iso (example USA)
and have none clone(cuz i diddnt test it with the clone), or no other chip than the original wiikey!

I don't test image but when i launch kkwarez.exe with cmd i have this errror message :
ERROR: File not found! (kkw-bootdisc.pal.iso)
I'm with VISTA and i have in the folder; kkw.Wiikey.1.2.PAL.iso, kkwarez.exe and make-multiv3.exe
why ?
It's because i don't put gcos multigame iso and rename to kkw-bootdisc.pal.iso ?
I try it and no error now i don't know if the DVD works now size of image :
Original 4 699 979 776
GCOS bootable ISO 1 459 978 240
Image to burn 1 460 273 152
yup had the same thing with vista please use a other win32 platform

i just update a PAL Wii with WiiFree 2.45 inside to newest Firmware 3.0E
Nothing happend! No Warning Screen or anything like some wiikey users had ...
All is working as before! GCos, Mario Striker - Online etc.
looks the Protection is only interessting for WiiKey Users ...
Before the Update, the Wii Shop Channel wouldn't Start ...
Now it works again ...
P.s. booting of Backups will be e little bit faster now ...

no, you get the warning if you go to the update menu NOW. NOT before you update, but after. and everything on wiikey works also, on all chips. Only things blocked are the setup discs for all chips, and things like action replay

I scanned kkwarez.exe with A-Squared and it came up as Trojan.Win32.AddUser.o. It could be a false positive, but I'm not risking it. Just burning the ISO in the zip file didn't work and gave the same result as using the WiiKey config disc from the official WiiKey site.

there's no need anyway! use the official wiikey disc after booting a gcos disc.. (any gamecube game with the added GCOS bootmenu for example or just a gcos disc will do!)

That's what I am doing (even though I have a WiiKey, I use the GCOS disc from the Wiinja site which works just fine), but I just wanted to make people aware that the file came up as infected. On a torrent site I use, someone else has just said that NOD32 "went nuts" when they tried to run that particular file. Like I said, it may be a false positive, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

you need a gamecube controler to toggle to the gcos menu, after that you can use the reset button
i don't have any gamecube controller, so i can't get through the menu? so then i'll have to wait for an update from the wiikey-team so they take the reset button back to life :)

NOD32 is particularly stringent though, if it detects exploit code in almost anything it will notify the user.
It was the same with the PSP tiff downgrader.

Info from the official wiikey page (http://www.wiikey.cn/)
[07.08.08] Wii firmware 3.0 issues
Nintendo has released firmware 3.0 via online updates. It will NOT brick or disable Wiikey; however, base and config discs will not load 'natively', neither will any other GC disc with El Torito standard header format. WiiNewz have reported that there are already tools available for building bootable config and setup discs, as well as other discs with applications and emulators. We are currently researching why the El Torito format no longer works. Once this is completed new versions of the config and base system disc will be made available.

If you download the kkwarez version,
extract the iso and , make-multiv3.exe.
Open a command box in the same directory.
Enter the command:
"make-multiv3 burnme.iso PAL kkw.Wiikey.1.2.PAL.iso"
for pal.
The disk wil be recompiled with GCOS in front of it.
This takes a LOOONG time.
And then burned the burnme.iso on 4 speed.
I can start the disk without any problems.
So i guess this works for the others if they also fail.
"make-multiv3 burnme.iso JAP kkw.Wiikey.1.2.JAP.iso"
for JAP.
"make-multiv3 burnme.iso USA kkw.Wiikey.1.2.USA.iso"
for usa.
btw.. compiled on vista.

and something else nice to know about make-multiv3.exe
Usage : make-multiv3 <output> <region> <game1> <game2> <etc>
Example: make-multiv3 multidisc.gcm PAL zelda.gcm mario.gcm
Example: make-multiv3 multidisc.gcm JAP zelda.gcm mario.gcm
Example: make-multiv3 multidisc.iso USA zelda.iso mario.gcm
and burn the output file.. multidisk.iso/gcm

after i compile the us setup disc, the disc image size is 4,700,372,992 bytes !? suppose to 4,699,979,776 bytes
btw why we need to make a GCOS if the file inside the rar already with this size 4,699,979,776 bytes (correct size for gamecube) do i just burn? double click on kkwarez.exe and compile to GCOS again only make the file become 4,700,372,992 bytes
maybe thats why some people didnt manage to boot because the size file

No... I also have a quick machine over here, but it still took some time.
I'm just warning people. There is not really a status bar on screen so it may just look like that the program does not respond any more. This is not the case. It’s just rebuilding the image.

They work. If your WiiKey Clone has not yet been configured - i.e. you are doing fresh install - and you have firmware 3.0 ... then you are stuck until they figure out which new Header they can run and release Config 1.3

Boot a disc with GCOS on it, and when it boots take out the gcos disk and put in the wiikey disc, and boot that with A.

This is a complete noob question: how do you load the setup disc?
Mine is v2.2 upgraded to v3 with original WiiKey installed.
Then I tried to play with backup game, worked just fine... but only once.
Now no backup games work.
I was hoping I can get somewhere with the setup disc, but I can load neither kkw (with make-multiv3.exe USA parameter) nor kliffte disc.
Any ideas?

Since i upgraded to version 3.0 (and then updated again to the new 3.0) i've noticed that i get more disc reading errors...
I have several games that used to work without a hitch a few weeks ago, but now either dont start at all (game doesnt load, reading error) or when the game does start, it stops when loading a new level with the error "insert game disc"
has someone noticed the same on his Wii, or is it just me?
(it could also be something completely unrelated like a speck of dust on the lens, but it started happening exactly after i upgraded....)

This is the solution for every wii with wiikey installed or a clone. By this method you always can upgrade your firmware for example the 1.9s update or the config disc. this solution is made for those people that can't update their wiikey or clone. You do need a gamecube controller as is it containes a hexedited gamecubelauncher.
