Weekly PS3 Sales Double in Japan

The latest sales data from Media Create shows that weekly Japanese Playstation 3 sales for the week ending July 29th were more than double those for the previous seven days. Wii sales dropped a little for the second week in a row, but that wasn't enough to prevent it being a clear 'winner', second only to the DS Lite.



While the DS Lite continues to be the top selling platform, holding steady around the 150,000 units sold mark for a second consecutive week, the PlayStation 3 is the big winner in the latest hardware charts. Sales of Sony's next generation console reached almost 30,000 units, leaving its predecessor in the shade.

Having exceeded the 100,000 units sold mark two weeks ago, Wii sales continue to fall, while sales of Sony's PSP and Microsoft's Xbox 360 are up marginally.

Everyone's GolF ( and the upskirts ;) ) contributed to the Spike on ps3 sales, remembr was one of the most Awaited titles on PS3, but as expected is not even nwar to be something dramatic, besides, after the first week, when everyone that waited for EG 5 got their game, the sales can drop abruptly by 50%.. :o
Strange how Mario Party 8 still outsold the EG 5 on Ps3, was waiting the opposite considering the almighty Famitsu's list :D . NDS is a real Virus :D

If system sales spiked like that for some corny ass game like that lame golf game, imagine what will happen when R&C and Uncharted come out..... better yet, Imagine the spike in sales when MGS 4 comes out.

The corny ass golf series has consistantly outsold every game on the ps2 in japan wiht the exception of the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts Series...the only other game to sell more than any Everybody's Golf is GT3. MGS and R&C have never cracked the platinum charts in Japan, they are moderately popular there but no where close to the popularity they enjoy elsewhere.

I own Disney Golf for the PS2 as well, there is nothing wrong with Golf games. The reason this is said is because people are too stupid and want nothing more than Blood, Violence, Sex and Profanity these days.

If you couldn't see EG5 on the charts, your theory could be right, But both , the current numers of consoles sold AND the number of E.Golf numbers are there, thus EG spiked the Ps3 a bit. I still think that after the E.G. title fade away, will be a long run on decay, until the next popular title.

I seem to remember a similar thing happening when the N64 and Gamecube had a high profile game come out in Japan. Their sales shot up for a week or two, but then fell back down to their usual numbers.

Corny? Yes. But hot shots still has the most solid golf engine of any golf game on the market.

It would be interesting, to also have the cut of price in Europe, this would contribute a lot to the sale dela console in terms of figures.

Hot shots is one of the most fun games to play with friends, this coming from someone who despises golfs (I still can't believe it's considered a sport) anywho since the ps3 is going to start getting a few titles in these coming months they will probably start selling better right up 'til the end of the year at the very least. I'm not quite sure when they'll start releasing worthwhile games next year, but if they keep a steady stream coming then we might see the ps3 sales reflecting the the "we're in a marathon" comment.

Well a lot of the future ps3 titles are going to be FPS, and I'm not sure how good those will fare over in Japan, but games like Lair (if it's good) and Stranglehold (I know it's on 360...... but does it really matter in Japan that it is?) I wish namco would release a "Tales" game on the ps3 before FF, the ps3 really, really, really, really needs some good rpgs fast.

i say the biggest spike will be the new super smash bros.
why ?
because for some folks , melee was the only reason to buy GC .
i can see people only buying wii when smash is out and because its an online game ( with huge community ) more and more people will be touched by the wii charm.

if the PS3 wasn't so expensive , i would say GTA4 will get the biggest spike , because ( if you like it or not) there are more casual gamers than heavy gamers , and GTA is one of the casual games i ever saw ( at least here ) and thats what made the PS2 , but lets just see how things play.

BTW i wonder when a new zelda comes out , it will spike ?

That & SR Taisen, and Some Ultramen games would make me wish a Ps3 urgently :D :D... Namco Tale Studio rocks.. :cool: gems like T. of Phantasia, Eternia, Symphonia and Abyss need to continue expanding.. If jsut Square could learn soemthign From these guys, instead doing pretty boys kissing pretty girls on 3D.:o

Yes shadow hearts is freaking awesome, and if square would start releasing a few sequels of some of their older series I would definitely be willing to buy them, vagrant story, parasite eve, threads of fate (my sisters loved the game), amongst others, also if they could release an rpg with an evolved xenogears battle system I would be really happy.

Namco I wish would start releasing some of those tales games that we never saw outside of Japan, specially Tales of Eternia 2, but I would take whichever one they want to release. Also it would be cool if they release games like that xenosaga game that tells the story of Ziggy and square could release the Star Ocean game that was for the gameboy, of course updated graphics and stuff and they could offer them on Live and the PSN as downloadable titles.
