PS3 sold 6 million woldwide already?

Could it be? The PS3 has sold in mega millions despite all the negativity? New global figures released by by GFK reveal that 61,000 units have been sold in Australia but 6,000,000 have been sold on a global basis. Although other reports are suggesting that sales are specifically at 4.48 million for the PS3, but their encouraging numbers none the less.

Ephraim also mentioned the latest Australian sales figures for the PS3. He highlighted that the GfK figure was actually a little dated, and the final numbers sat somewhere closer to a total of 64,000 units sold in Australia to date. He also said that, on a slow week, the PS3 was selling around 2,500 units - putting it ahead of all other direct console competitors in the market. Globally, the PS3 has racked up a total of approximately 6 million units sold.

Yea most likely, there is not way in hell that they had like 3 million units sold last month, and this month (out of nowhere) they have 6 million. Looks like they had pulled that number straight out of their ass. But as far as "sony is known for this decieving practise" goes, you should check up on M$ has been up to lately, then come back and talk to me.

All companies (Sony, M$, Nintendo, HP, Dell, etc.) track their sales like this. It would be impractical to rely on the numbers of each individual store and count on them to report the numbers accurately. Think of all of the mom and pop businesses that sell merchandise. Do you think those companies are going to report their sales back to the manufacturer? That doesn't mean that Sony or any other company couldn't bullsh*t the numbers though; although the SEC wouldn't be happy about that.

What amazes me is how "people" (here on MC & other places) swear they "know" EXACTLY how many systems (any manufacturer) have been actually sold as if they have mass corporate knowledge, inventory documents and fiscal spreadsheets to support their "it's only shipped..." comments. Now whether it is true or not is yet to be seen & confirmed but to actually believe some of the things people say in public is hysterical.

You really think they are going to sell nearly a million a month for the next 3 months? Nintendo has managed to do that mainly with a cheap pricetag and the usual run of people buying them to resell on ebay and craigslist, but I cant see either MS or Sony doing that consistantly price cuts or not. I think they can reach 6 million sales (not just shipped) by the end of the holiday season but to expect it to reach those numbers before November is asking for severe dissapointment IMHO.

They jumped because they are selling the last 60gb's :D , after the 80gb at 600 be the only one avaliable...will be a dead end again, like what happened to the 20 GB edition.

And you know this because?

80GB is only coming with a $600 tag because of the fact that it is a BUNDLE PACKAGE, you can be sure that once the bundle is dropped and it is only the 80GB + 1 controller the price will drop once again. Not doing so would make no sense, who takes out a game + extra controller all of a sudden and still jacks the price? Common sense much?

Every post you have made so far today has been anti-sony... any reason as to why you dislike them so much?

I bet Sony themselves don't know the exact amount sold. They will always round the figures up rather than down. I really don't think they have sold 6 million yet, but probably will do in the the next few months.

first i think based on numbers revealed thus far they have sold half that number. secondly if they had sold that many PS3's worldwide do you really think that sony would keep their mouth shut? i don't, they are to arrogant not to brag about something like this.

if they sold that many then the system would be hard to come by but its everywhere. every single store that carries game systems has one in stock down here whether its target, circuit city or best buy. these numbers are drastically fabricated. the 4 mil number seemed very reasonable but this is just redundant

Yep, and the Genesis reached 30 Mil a decade after release.

Anyway, it's consoles shipped. Not too long ago they mentioned them shipping 5.5 Million consoles.
