Hi all,

I've been searching these forums as well as google the last few days but have had no luck finding what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know any "single" program solutions that will let you add hard susbtitles to videos from DVD (vob) for convertion to PSP video format?
PSP Vault etc does do a very good job (subs dont dissapear unless there is a subtitle to replace it) and they dont support the newer resolutions of 480x272.

Don't post the solutions envolving virtual dub + vobsub/text sub plugins unless you've tried please.. I've tried these solutions.. they don't seem to work, I dont know if its Windows Vista, Virtual Dub.. or both.

Cheers.

Hello.

IMO The best encoder is Xvid4psp. The steps you have to follow to convert with hardcoded subtitles are:

1) Rip the main dvd movie to harddisk with the dvdshrink included in xvid4psp (tools-> dvdshrink)

2) Google vobsub.dll and look for the instructions on how to rip subs directly from dvd (you should have in the end one "subtitle.sub" and one "subtitle.idx"). I can't remember now how exactly it's done and Im in a hurry :)

3) When loading the main movie (VOBs) from Harddisk, make sure in the second page of settings (as you are preparing size, bitrate, audio, normalize,etc...) check the "subtitles" at the bottom of this page, and give the path to those .sub and idx. (select the idx file)

4) Click ok and start conversion. The subtitles will appear hardcoded in a really cool and clean way.

If something doesn't work Ill be later to help you. Now I gotta go.
Regards.

Thanks for the tips Dale.. its a shame I cant run xvid4psp.. for some reason it keeps crashing on Vista ever since (funny enough) they said it should work with vista. I used to use that program all the time :(

Might give it another shot at trying to get xvid4psp working. Problem there is the programs its known not to work with I use more than xvid4psp.. but it used to work with vista fine.
