Things just keep getting worse for the Xbox group, in addition to admitting an unacceptable rate of Xbox 360 failures, MS has also revealed that it has failed to reach its desired shipment target. MS had projected to sell 12 million units of the Xbox 360 by June 30 but instead managed the shipping of 11.6 million units. Despite this, Chris Liddell (CFO) announced that they are still happy with the slightly shy figure.

The company had said it would sell 12 million of the consoles by June 30. Instead, it has shipped a total of 11.6 million units, Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said on a conference call

"That is slightly shy" of its projections, Liddell said, but added "we're happy with that number."

Earlier Thursday, Microsoft said it was extending the warranty on the console to three years for certain hardware failures, a move that is prompting a $1 billion charge.

ism't this the same target that they had previously had set at 15 million too? I guess if you keep lowering your targets, they get easier to achieve.

They didn't even ship 12m, how do you not ship 2m worldwide in 6 months.

Of course the 2.5 mil faulty consoles are included.
Why wouldn't they be?
As they now come with a 3 year warranty every last 360 sold should at some point be a valid, sold functional console.

I don't mean to be a fanboy, god knows there are enough on here already, but the reason I switched to MS consoles is because Sony ones had a knack of dying 12 months after purchase. The Lazers in particular were never strong and did Sony respond by extending their warranty? Sure It's inconvenient if you have to send a machine back, and yes there are very public cases of some people sending back NUMEROUS consoles, but if they are repaired eventually the only real losers are Microsoft who have to pay to repair them. I wouldn't be so stupid as to say count your lucky stars, but at least they are owning up to and taking responsibility for their mistakes. They know all this negative press is detrimental to sales and it's probably not done out of a sense of duty, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Oh look we shipped a faulty unit, we did fix and return it though, still knock another 1 off the overall total because fixed consoles don't count as sales

LOL Sony are so desperate for figures if they fixed a console and shipped it back they'd probably count that as 2 units shipped :D

Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

This just goes to prove that all you jackass 360 fans who were shouting that the 360 has sold over 11 million consoles to customers that you were wrong, dead fucking wrong!

Whether you want to admit it or not, the VGchartz figures are the sold figures for the 360, they have sold just over 10 million.

Damn thanks zeus, thanks for proving me RIGHT!

Personally I've never made any claims and I don't really have a vested interest.
However I'm glad you're so happy.

I expect you're off to bash one off with your Wii wand now :p

10.13 M not 11.6 (www.vgchartz.com date).

They had not perhaps kept in mind of the Wii, besides among all the consoles the 360 is that that is worse, it sells few, it breaks, and it ban you.

vgchartz is doing sold numbers. ms announced shipped numbers of 11.6 million. shipped and sold are different. originally ms had aimed for 15 or 16 million shipped by this time. then downgraded it to 12 and still didn't hit it.

they will have taken a hit with the bannings, lots of people where buying em in bulk to mod and sell. But that slowed down when the bannings happened. tbh I couldnt care less how many sell as long as they keep releasing amazing games. Ive got one so I dont care lol.

"That's Sony's Stand"

Didn't they figure something like 10 Million consoles in 2007 originally?

Slight shy figure they say? They projected to "sell" 12 million. They "shipped" 11.6 million. They "sold" 10.3 million. How the hell is this slighty shy? Never knew 1.7 million was a slight figure.

Sony's Stand? You are indeed an idiot. So quick to bash the PS3. It's all you ever do, wow.

Take a look at your 360 buddy. Get a fucking clue then come back with some anti **** again.

I didnt relise that 2007 was over already.

Damn that year flew through

No-one is buying the 360 anymore, i want you to do some re-search on the drwamcasts sales, not its games or how it was supported but how it actually sold and then look at the 360, its the same damn thing.

The dreamcast flys off the shelves until the competition is released then it slows to a snails pace, sells 13 million overall and dies.

The 360 flys off the shelves until the competition is released then it slows to a snails pace, i predict 15 million worldwide before it dies.

Uh huh, brilliant comparing the DC with the 360 there. I do recall them doing that to the Xbox, saying it was going to die yet it did better than the Gamecube. Oh, and they did it with the 360 too, I remember them saying that the launch would be great like Dreamcast and then it'd have very few games in the following years. I guess the 360 isn't like the DC then, seeing as it has gotten game after game from not only first party devs but a lot of people are jumping ship from exclusivity of the PS3 to make it exclusive to the 360 or at least multiplatform. Now that you mention it, isn't that what the PS2 did to the Dreamcast? So wouldn't the PS3 represent the Dreamcast more so? Just saying...since you brought it up and all. But anyway, contrary to belief, I don't care if the 360 wins the race or not, hell the PS3 could win for all I care. I'm not into the whole "Winning a console war" thing, if the 360 comes in last place, you can go on to say "Told you so" because you DO care about Microsoft losing when I don't give a **** if Sony wins or not.

Rofl. You would know, huh? Doing nothing but praising Sony. That wasn't a stab at Sony at all, it was just a reflection of how every video game console, with maybe the exception of the Wii, never meets their outright quota. And besides, I do remember one of your posts stating and I quote "What I don't have the right to my opinion?". Despite what you may think, I was hoping for a great system in the PS3 but with what Sony is doing with it, it's becoming pretty stagnant. The quote was just a play on words with those damn Alstate commercials, they annoy me.

Without games...there'd be no consoles. So your idea of sales figures doesn't really hold up on that sole idea. The DC didn't die because of sales figures, the reason the sales figures dropped was because the games were depleted, hardware wasn't anywhere in the equation of the death of the DC, the hardware was better than the PS2's, in many ways.
