The latest news from the manufacturer of the g6 flash card:

Our G6Falsh 3rd generation will be put out with two versions separately

As a result of hardware structure difference, our G6 Flash 3rd generation will be put out with two versions separately.

1) G6Flash 3 GBA version:

It can be compatible with all GBA games perfectly and can be supplementary with all necessary functions.

It can be entered into NDS mode with Passkey, and can support Homebrew and Demo games.

2) G6Flash 3 NDS version:

It can be compatible with all GBA games perfectly and can be supplementary with all necessary functions.

It can be entered into NDS mode with Passkey, and can support Homebrew and Demo games and Real games.

The above 2 versions can support multi-game function

So the main difference between the both cards will be that the nds version will support real games. We all know what that means. :D

its very cool, although i dont plan on getting one due to already owning a 1gig stick with the neo flash software enabled, its a nice thing. the passkey they have is great too, it goes behind the system. the real nice feature is it will do multiple nds games in one flash. scene may be moving a little slow, but the news that breaks is enough to compensate for the lack of updates.

I dont really get it. What do you have? A memory stick with neoflash software? So you can play nds games with it? Never heard of that before. Maybe you could post some links to what you have.

OK, I have read some info on the latest develops in NDS homebrew / backup but still a bit in the dark on some things.

From my understanding, with the g6, you will be able to backup and play NDS roms from the cart and it provides it's own passme type device.

Is that a correct statement? Or more specifically, is a passme, or magic key, etc. required to play a backed up NDS rom? From what I can tell, that is the case, and from what I have also ready the Neo is pretty much garbage with the g6 looking to be the best possible solution.

I have also seen some roms being released that use GBA saves, unencrypted, etc. From what I know, you can not make a backup of roms on your own with any hardware out there. So with all these different types of roms being released to the scene what are the real differences and are there ones that work and ones that don't?

Ultimately I would like something where I can backup my own roms, able to save the games to a flashcart then dump to a PC, etc. but it's still a bit confusing (to me) as to what can really be done today and where this development is heading.

slow it down a bit. lets go here first, theres two pieces of software out that allow u to backup ds games, there both hardware restricted in a way. one requires the neoflash 512 kit and the other requires the gba movie player. next, ds games arent like a basic dvd based game where its simply ripped then burned, it has to be patched to run off the gba slot and at the moment nobody has stepped up with the loader that is assumed to be leaked anyday now. its not that neokey is trash, its just too much money for such a little kit, 512 cart and pass me is nothing special. if ur in a rush to play games then u can get a neokit but ull be paying. i would wait though because its going to be one big day when everything starts pouring out and thats the day that neo team is going to diminish.

The G6 cart works as an external drive using the FAT filesystem which will backup and playback NDS images (along with others) supporting saving using any PassMe solution including their own. They have 1-4gb versions which will be fairly priced.

The NeoFlash is a backup unit that can't backup, can't save correctly, uses custom software to read/write to the cart and consists of an overpriced PassMe and low sized XG1.

No, the NeoCrap doesn't suck at all. I would buy one over the G6 cart any day!

Well there are a few more handicaps. So the neoflash has been tested on another forum and the tester needed 20 min to flash 6 gba roms to it. On the other hand it takes the g6 10 sec to flash â 128 Mbit game (according to the manufacturer). The second thing was that it cant handle the multiboot loader right. So if you have 2 games on it (gba_save) and try to save one then the other the last gamestate will overwrite the first. The g6 flash will have much more then just the ability to backup, run and save nds games. It has already built in emulators and a pda like interface. And you will be able to watch movies and listen to music.
It also comes with a built in multiboot loader. Well at least the neoflash team was the first one to bring us a flash card when everyone thoght that its impossible due to the 1024 Mb RSA encryption. But they became money hungry. I wonder for how long they thought they would be the only ones that can deal with it and force the customers to buy their product.

It's a first gen product so what do you expect? They will probably lower their price and redesign a new unit, but I think they rushed the gun and introduced a flawed product.

The worst part that I see is the fact that DarkFader sold out and jumped onto this project so I hope the G6 makes him lose a ton of money.

It certainly looks amazing, but what will this bundle cost us agaiN :( .

I'm not about to spend 200 bucks on a flashc art so i guess i'll have to wait

Thanks for the responses. That pretty much clears up what I thought.

So it looks like waiting for the g6 is the best bet right now. It does look nice (the design of their passme looks much better then the magic key) and if it fully supports game saves and ultimately backing up of original roms (which would be great for me as I own a bunch) then I think that is the way to go.

I guess I'll just keep an eye out for when it comes out as I am sure people will start to review it and will know if the time has come to finally purchase something.

Thanks again!

Well I think that the g6 flash card 1 MBit version including a DSPasskey will be about 20 bucks lower then a 512 MBit neoflash kit. However this is just speculation and the neoflash team will be forced too to react in some way. We now have a viper qoob situation.

And as for the review hopefully brakken will do the job, wont you? :D

I just got news from a salesman from gamefreaks and he stated that the g6flash 4Gb version will be available for the same amount of money as some of the 1Gb GBA flashcards cost ATM. However it is not known yet if the dspasskey is included.

If thats true this is the reward be will receive for not having bought the neo.

I've been out of the scene for awhile... I've couple of questions.

1) how much do 1GB GBAs cost (so that I can get an idea of how much G6 will cost)?

2) What is a passme/passkey?

Thanx for your help. This G6 thing looks really nice! Can't wait for this baby to come out...

Any word on a release date by the way?

I just checked their website to see if there was any new information and saw a new video they have up showing the flashing of nds roms to the new g6 then insterting the rom into the nds and loading a few games. One of them was metroid. I couldn't make out what the other two they loaded but it looks sweet.

So it definately appears this is what neo would never be but ultimately is what everyone was waiting for.

From the video, I did not see, or could tell if there was a passme/passkey device used as they just show the rom connected to the loader (which of course is connected to the PC) then after flashing inserting the rom into the NDS.

I can't wait for this to come out! I am so psyched!
