View Full Version : Church of England thank Sony for apology but things aren't over yet
Manchester Cathedral has responded to Sony's apology over the photo realistic rendition of the Church in Resistance: Fall of Man but the conflict is still far from over. During their meeting with Sony they will remain firm on their opposition and discuss their outstanding demands such as the removal of the game as well as a contribution of the profits.
Today at 4.30pm, Manchester Cathedral received a letter from Sony Computer Entertainment, which can be found below. In response to the letter, the Dean and Chapter have made the following remarks:
"We acknowledge the admission by Sony that the building in the game is Manchester Cathedral. We thank Sony for the apology they have made.
However, we do not move from the position that we are against violence and especially the gun violence seen in this portrayal of the Cathedral.
We are pleased that Sony wish to come and meet with us in Manchester as today we offered them such an invitation.
In the meeting with Sony we will discuss our outstanding demands, how this game came to be produced and where the images of the Cathedral came from."

Never would I have needed proof before that Christianity is a 'shard.
It's clearly obvious that twat of a bishop want's every pound he can get.
This comes from a brit in the mainlands of England.

Personally I wouldn't care a bit as it's just a computer game, pure fiction. It's no different from countless films that have portrayed violence in churches.
It's only because it's a video game and Sony that they are making a fuss. If this news is true and they are going to ask for a cut of the profits on the game then as a Christian myself I would find it difficult not to lose a bit of respect for the church of England as that's just hypocritical, complaining about the content of the game but being happy to take a share of the profits.
Surely in a court of law there's barely a case against Sony.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - The Church should f*ck off. This is a video game ffs. Not real life; if it was real life there would be kiddie-fiddler vicars in the game. There's a long standing relationship between The Church and incidents of paedophilia;

Money grabbing, kiddie fiddling, witch burning, bunch of hypocritical c*nts. I'll gladly burn in Hell, but for once I'm on Sony's side.
BTW - I'm in no way insinuating that all (or even a majority) of the COE is tainted by such people; they're everywhere in real life - from priests to "pop" stars to binmen. Just STFU please and get real; this is the 21st century.

That's embarrasing if you ask me, with this behaviour they're contradicting a whole bunch of the principles upon which Christianity is based..... then again churches have been doing that all the time.

As far as I know...the reason why churches were formed was a way to gather money.

This is ONLY about money and nothing else.
Since day one the church saw an opportunity to make easy money and here there are, thinking they won the first battle so they can win the war.
In my view Sony should have never apologised. If there were copyright issues they should have resolved them and that would have been the end of it.
However, as the prime minister and the other idiot that use to work for him made a big fuss out of this story Sony got scared and started to bend down to the bishop request.
I don't have any respect for this member of the church and for the church itself. They are institutions to control mind and generate money. That is all.
God does not give a flipping damn about the fact that the church was used for a game. This is all about greedy humans and nothing else. Otherwise why that idiot of bishop wants a cut of the profits?
Sony should just evaluate the situation, establish whether there was a breach of the copyright issue, resolve it and end the story. If not, they should just tell the bishop to sod off and end the story.
Maybe all the gamers supporting Sony should gather outside the church and complain about the bishop. I am sure he would use the opportunity to demonstrate that we are all "evil" and have been brainwashed by games such us Resistance.
In truth, I am getting incredibly fed up about games been blamed for everything. It seems that people do not want to take personal responsibility about their lives and are looking for people or things that can be blamed.
What a joke!!!!

Absolutely. Their own purpose was to control the masses.
You are evil
You are a sinner
You need redemption
We can offer redemption but,
Make sure you make a good offer to the church to help with the process.
What a joke!!!

Why on earth would you want money from a game that insults you? Doesn't make too much sense to me...
The Church of England is broke and in debt and needs easy money, shame.

i said it before and i will say it again, this is the only way most people will ever visit the place, be thankful the game is as respectful as it is.
Most would be honored to have their building shown off in such a detailed way. I didn't hear catholics complain when movies used the vatican as a backdrop for action movies. This goes back to the days of the exorcist when the CoE and Catholics screamed until the exorcist was banned.
This only hypes up the game and sells more anyway.
My last comment: Let sony f*** you! THE POWER OF SONY COMPEL's YOU!

The application to have the proceeds from the sale of the game, is indeed bleak indeed. The Church preaches the poverty it is paradoxical this thing.:(
