Gaming site 'Innerbits' is claiming that two of their 'close sources' have confirmed that Sony has been working on developing the rumbling SIXAXIS PS3 controller for several months and are now just trying to iron out a few small bugs. One of the main current issues is the lack of a strong battery life for the controller while Innerbits also discusses the PR issue Sony will have when the controller is released as gamers will either have to do deal without rumble or go and buy additional controllers.

Many have suspected that since the agreement, Sony will have been working on a new controller with rumble support. We can now confirm that this is the case. We’ve heard from two independent sources at Sony that they have been working on prototypes for several months. Officially, the corporate line is still “no comment”. Unofficially, Sony is facing some difficulties with battery life; i.e. Between the rumble and the wireless support, the batteries are draining too fast to be acceptable for consumers.

I thought Sony learned from this? Sony needs to bring something new to the table and if they don't bring a "complete wireless" wii-like controller to the market, they will definitly lose this generation. Hopefully they learned from Nintendo and try to actually do something with this chance they have.

BTW: If they assimilate the controller by allowing some downloadable games use it then some real games and finally make it standard then people will probably feel they got what they want from the previous controller.

And in other news Sony claims rumble is the way of the future, and Nintendo stole the idea to have rumble and motion in a controller at the same time.

Cant see why it would be such a huge drain on battery life, I get about 30hrs on my 360's rechargable battery packs. Plus the charge station only takes a couple of hours to fully charge the battery so I always have a backup waiting.

let me get this straight.

1. sony ripped out the vibrations= people moaned

2. sony gives back the vibrations =people moans

and for the charger, i think ps3's pad will be rechargeable via usb, like current pad.

on other news, kutaragi had a diahorrea since demoted.

They will be announcing the rumble controllers at E3 this year...so I would hope they have been working on them.

What do you mean "this is news?" Of course this is news. This is video game site isn't? You don't think Sony implementing a new rumble controller is not news? Seems pretty major to me.

Microsoft didn't bring anything new to the world (have they ever?) and they are doing alright in this generation. So what makes Sony forced to do it?

Apart from a Guide Button which has lights but I still don't think its the best controller ever, I hate the Dpad and buttons on it.

Anyways, I refuse to get a new controller until these ones are out, I'll just just USB adaptors for now as I have 3 PS2 controllers.

But I like to hear this news!

People will always moan. This time its the battery life.

Solution: Get a wired controller.

An adapter of the controller Ps2 would simply be enough.

Even if indeed I had not thought before never. The controller having the battery, with the rumble, it could suffer the absorption of the consumption of the battery.

Reducing notably the operating time.

Out of curiosity... what is "Complete Wireless"??? The only time my sixaxis is connected to the PS3 is when it's charging or upgrading the firmware. As far as games go.. I sit my ass across the living room playing form afar.

Well considering Sony took the whole guide button idea, which is a huge addition at least on the 360 as well as the shoulder buttons with triggers below I would say that's a significant addition. It also doesn't have problems with staying connected to the console like the PS3 and the Wii has.

Your witty comments impress me all the time. :p

What are you expecting people to do with controllers? Nintendo makes a remote and nunchuck with tilt functionality and everyone calls it a gimmick. Sony has done nothing to improve controllers other than add a second analog stick 10 years ago, and considering they got the whole analog control idea from nintendo it was just an extension of what was already done.

Except for the D-pad on the 360, the controller is perfect.

As for using cords, real consoles don't need them.
