View Full Version : Just Got A PSP and need some help
Right guys im not a total noob when it comes to flashing etc as ive done a few 360s but new to the psp scene. I have a 1.5 psp and understand i need to install devhook. Am i right to say both .iso games and .cso work fine. when i open the dot iso game it has a folder sps game folder and umd_data.bin folder is this iso therefore compatible? thanks

Ah, 1.5, those were the days.
Have you considered upgrading to 3.40 OE firmware? If you do, you won't have to deal with devhook and can load the iso directly from the XMB menu.
And yes, .iso and .cso work fine.
yeh i guess i will upgrade. just read the readme file in the dark alex folder yes to install. Just one more question do i need devhook to flash up to 3.40e and is it easy to come back down the 1.5 thanks

No devhook needed for 1.5, all you do is make the dxar file and then flash it (see the readme for steps there).
Flashing back down to 1.50 is very simple. Look in the early OE releases for the recovery flasher util. The OE recovery menu (hold R on coldboot) is a special menu that can save you from semi bricks, allows easy flash customisation and allows you to downgrade back to 1.50 whenever you like using the recovery flasher. I've gone from 1.50 to various OE versions and back so many times i've lost count :D
After successfully flashing back up your memstick and format it to create all of the new OE directory structure. Some savegames may no longer work after flashing due to a change in the way saves are handled but you can use devhook in OE firmwares to emulate a lower firmware to get around that if you really don't want to lose the save (i think anything pre 3.0 is ok but it might be pre 2.80).
Isos with the umd_data.bin in the root are the ones you want. Just drop them in the ISO folder and then check under memory stick on the game menu to launch them, homebrew goes there too.
just one more question fellas do you advise me to use an auto installer for 3.40oe or do it manually thanks

auto installer is for noobs who r stupid n lazy.
use manual. it's damn easy..easier than brushing teeth.
u gain more experience when u learn the manual way...believe me . it's worth manual upgrading. :)
yeh ill go manual. I understand all the instructions but im lazy:p so was gonna use auto installer

Look here, it is very simple!.
3.40 Open Edition REvision A
Installation instructions:
- Copy oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you
are in any SE/OE version. Get the 1.50 and 3.40 Sony updaters (of any region, because all are
currently the same), and copy them in the oeupdmaker directory with the names 150.PBP and 340.PBP.
Execute the program, and it will generate the DATA.DXAR file. The checksums (althoug the flasher
will check for them for you):
CRC32: CDA4638D
MD5: 9754F2CC0CBE2D8FE0DD009C90FDCD9F
SHA1: 6F76BB67B31EFF6FECB72D9D4AF443C793E1E521
- Copy 340oeflasher and 340oeflasher% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you
are in any SE/OE version. Move the DATA.DXAR to 340oeflasher directory.
You need 75% battery, although you can skip this if you pressed L+triangle while loading the program.
