I went to Radio Shack to pick up some parts today and after looking for a Flux pen and not finding it asked if they had it. They said they didn't carry it... ?

Yeah, doesn't surprise me. I ended up finding them in a local electronics/hobby store. Regular flux is easier to find...just apply it with a tooth pick.

instigator is right, you can get it at a Hobby electronics store, thats where I got mine. it's not really helpful to be honest, you gotta apply pressure to get the flux out, and it can come out rapidly sometimes. just get a bottle and save yourself the hassel

Go to a Radio Shack and pick up the little jar of flux. It cost about 3 bucks. You don't need the pen, just get the jar of flux and use either a toothpick or q-tip to apply it to the points.

Get solder with the flux core.. That works best for me.

Personally, I'd suggest the cyclowiz or the wiikey clone if you want to go the cheap route. If you're experienced with pic programming, there's a wide array of free (open source) chips to chose from.
Here's why I suggest each as I'm sure I'll be flamed by someone...
Cyclowiz - PROVEN upgrade functionality as well as support from the developers. Currently, their V3 (V2 + patch) works on every game that you can play with any other chip.
WiiKey Clone - Has all the compatibility that the Cyclowiz does, EXCEPT Gamecube games with streaming audio. I suggest this over the actual wiikey because of the price (I'll make the assumption that saving money is the main reason you want a chip).
In all honesty, most chips on the market right now all offer the same compatibility between games and the choice on chips boils down to whatever you want to go with.

sweet, thanks numms. yeah, i've been looking into open wii, and what with all the recent developments in dvd upgrading and what-not, open wii is looking pretty good. i've actually gone through the website, and it doesn't seem so hard (my radioshack also has the parts :D), but...meh, i dunno, i think i might just get a cyclo-wiz.
heh, anyway, getting out before i get flamed for thread-hijacking xD
