a bit more info on the type of drive/version and what you are exactly doing wouldnt go amiss?

also what do you mean by knacked?

i know knackered,in waht way?

TS-H943 MS28, i think i shorted out the PCB, i had the power cable half way in when i powered up the 360 :S

the drive no longer powers up and i dont think i backed up my original fw,
what are my options?

sorry to hijack but we both got the same problem..

at a guess.

first look at the pcb and look for any signs of shorting, look where the power lead gos in the rear of drive and look for tell tale signs of scorching.

if there is no eject, then it looks that way.

someone if not yourself should be able to desolder the sstsf chip off the pcb and read the chip in a programmer to get the fw out, then at least you can get the key.

just a guess.this is based on shorted hitachi pcb's.

i could be wrong.but, thats my best guess.

basicly dont go and get conned by someone saying, you cant do this that and the other and offering you a measly 50 quid and then they go and do what i said and get a cheap console.

hi,the drive is a samsung i will have to check what version but when i took the drive apart i could smell like a burning and on the pcb in the drive it looks like one of the chips has burnt, the person that had it before me said that he had a modchip fitted and when it started playing up he had it took out, bullshit he tried to have it flashed and fucked the drive board, eny way the drawer will not open and i was wondering if ther is eny other way of getting the drive key eny clues or help i would be gratefull cheers:mad:

dependant on just how f**ked the pcb is I'm sure you could pull the key by doing the "2 wire trick" as you'd still need the drive key to flash in that way anyways.

If its proper f**ked then i'm not sure what else you could try

actually, even if the drive doesn't open - have you tried to read the firmware from it yet? It may still work connected to a PC sata cable

am not too sure, but, depending on where the chip is soldered on,it might have been desoldered off and some solder might have bridged tracks.if he did fry the pcb,the sstsf chip can still be removed.

means heating up the epoxy resin that is all over it,there are two types, there is like a caramel colored one and black one.you will see it on the chip,it should saty something like sst38sf2090a or something like that, thats the chip that needs desoldering.then a programmer with the right zif adaptor (thats where you put the chip in) and it should be read to extract the fw from it.

then the key can be found for that motherboard to marry another drive.

the stuff is pretty expensive but,i suppose that depends on where you live in the world.

programmer in uk roughly £60.00

you can forget about that board though it is fried.probably used the kit to flash it and it shorted and took the drive or if it was a chip that was desoldered he has left a bridge or desoldered/lifted a component on the board.

in short it sounds like it is permanantly disabled.

i know how to read chips/erase and write them.its easy peasy, just the cost of all the gear to get chips of,the programmer and just learning.not hard.i aint got the adaptor for that type of pin layout i just got it for hitachi sstvf tsop32.

if you try to desolder the chip, just dont snap any pins of the chip or its no good for reading and try to lift it as clean as you can.
