View Full Version : PSP won't allow upgrade from 3.03OE to an 'official' firmware

My colleague is running 3.03OE-B, but his PSP is faulty, so he needs to send it to Sony for repair.
I am trying to install some 'official' firmware on it, so that Sony won't reject the repair, but when I try and install 3.10, I get a "DADADADA" error.
After doing a Google search, its clear that "DADADADA" is some kind of 'block' to stop you from flashing un-hacked firmware.. But how do you get around this if you NEED to do it?
What can I do to install an 'official' firmware?

Would guess you'd need to go back to 1.50, and upgrade from there...

If you really want to install 3.10 (Official) real badly, you can just downgrade it to 1.5 and upgrade it to 3.10 just as long as the board is not TA-082 or TA-086. If the board is TA-082 and TA-086, then you might have some trouble with it (I'm no expert on it since I don't have a PSP that uses these boards).
Like a lot of people here on this forum will ask: Why do you want to upgrade to the official 3.10 firmware? If you upgrade to the official 3.10 firmware, you can't downgrade it back.

ok, install 3.40OE-A
do a firmware spoof and make it look like 3.40
send it sony and let's see if it stays spoofed 3.40.
and sony wont reject just by custom firmware installed.
if you get psp with official 3.40, you are pretty much fu*ked because
you can't downgrade and have fun anymore.

But Sony arn't going to repair it.. They are simply going to replace it for sure.. probably for a reconditioned unit.
So I have no control over what they are going to send back.. I realise that if they send one with 3.40 then we are ****ed, but I don't know what else to do.
Since its got to go back, I would rather it went back with 'official' firmware than something hacked, just incase they do get funny about it!
I didn't realise that it was OK to go back to 1.50.. With this in mind, perhaps its the way to go.. As if they do repair it, atleast we will get it back with 1.50... HOwever, even if Sony do repair it, I would imagine that they would put the latest firmware on before they send it back, so I think we are stuffed what ever way you look at it :(

That is a genius idea!! i would have just put it to official 3.03 (as i have GTA LCS ) sent it to them and prayed they don't touch the fw, but spoofing 3.40oe-a - genius...A++++ :)

I am not absolutely sure.. It has a few problems, such as the screen going off and the select button appear to stick when you are in the browser.
Whist I was playing with it today, it started going 'left' and kept going, but it didn't feel like a button fault to me.
The problem is that its intermittent, and I honestly feel that they won't fix it, but will simply send a replacement instead.

The proper way to do this from one of the README's by Dark_AleX ...
Because official SCE updaters don't work in that 1.50 kernel environment (because they need some vsh files not available), i've included with this package a flasher that lets to flash any official update from 1.50-2.71 to your psp. To use it, copy the files inside inside "flasher for recovery/RECOVERY" in /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/ and the official SCE updater renamed as UPDATE.PBP in the same directory, and run the program through the recovery option.

At last.. Thank you.. I know there are many options, but I just want to get some 'official' firmware installed before it goes back.. If not, and Sony do object, I am just going to get the blame.. So I would rather put it back to default and let my colleague sort it out!

The custom firmware's are NOT illegal and will not void the warranty. The only that what will, is if you open the PSP.
Don't believe me? Then why is this on Sony's forums?

Are they really Sony forums? If so, I am blown away! On every other product I have know, the use of modified firmware would void the warantee.
If this is really the case, then he can simply send it back with the hacked firmware in place!

i think the 2 posts you are referring to are misread and generally quite shady... disclaimer at the bottom of both links...
IMPORTANT REMINDER: This thread is not a place to talk about piracy.....yada.. yada.....Please review the Official Rules of Conduct before posting. This thread is not authorized or supported by Sony in any way. I have no affiliation with Sony or any of it's associates.
section 5 of the official code of conduct says:
Don't discuss any illegal activities. This includes piracy and other forms of intellectual property infringement!
Pretty sure the intellectual properry infringement would probable include reverse engineering...
Sony don't really have a choice..they kill off HB completely. go down the route of the RIAA and mp3's, kick up fuss.. but they cut off there nose to spite there face... they have to suck it. Still prob best not to rub it in and send em OE's to repair, and expect them to send a shiny HB ready psp back to you...
