Do you need to stealth patch a file? My friend asked and I just thought, I don't actually know. Why, what are the risks of not doing it?

As far as I'm aware, no you don't "need" to however its probably still a good idea from a precautionary perspective. I haven't heard about any checks on the media - and if they are Microsoft isn't banning (yet). However patching isn't that hard to do so I would still recommend it. Can never be too safe.

Ok, it's just my friend (I'm not sure how) is trying to stealth patch an image and has burned twice and they are both fails. Told him to try it unpatched to see if the image at least works.

hows he backup up his originals, if he`s using xbc then its more than likely that it`s already stealth patched and shouldnt be a problem. But realistly he`s playing a pirated copy, so you wont get much help. And how do I know? Cause when you backup your original why would you unstealth your original game, its just more trouble than its worth!

Using XBC? Is that the Xbox Backup Creator?
I just used Xbox Backup Creator 2.8 build 275 to backup my copy of NFS Pro Street, and I got this screenshot from XDVDMulleter when checking the ISO:

Am I fine? Or do I still have to stealth patch it using that button "Insert Stealth"?
PS: Sorry for digging up this thread, but I didn't want to create a new thread.
Thanks in advance! :)

Sorry to be such a nuisance (and forgive my ignorance  )
But how could you tell?
I just want to know, so I can tell for myself as well :D
Thanks so much, IPz I Legend! :)

Because everything is checked under Xtreme Compatibility.

Thanks for the reply crazhshiza.
So if everything is ticked under Xtreme Compatibility (in XDVDMulleter) I can just simply burn the *.dvd+*.iso file using ImgBurn on 2.4x ... and just insert it into my modded Xbox 360?
That simple?

Correct, you would have to worry about it if there was anything unticked under the compatability list....Or you could always flash Xtreme firmware like I have cause you don't play online, it will boot unstealthed images none the less.

always go to crc checking and use autofix, then you will fully know if your image is correct. Lots of times i have all checkmarks in dvd mulleter, but when i do the autofix it says the ss is not correct and it needs to be corrected. this also happens with scene releases.

Thanks guys! I didn't know about the SS checking. I guess I can only do it from now on (I've already backuped some of my games).
One last question (I promise haha)
I've made a backup of my xbox 360 games onto Verbatim DVD+R DLs 8x (but burned on 2.4x)
But when I play my backuped version of the game, the DVD drive makes a really abnormal squealing sound or something.
Is this normal? I don't think this happens when I play with the genuine copy ...
Is this happening for anyone else?

That noise generally means the drive is having trouble reading the disk. Sometimes "tweaking" the POT resistance a tad lower can help, as the drives are adjusted to retail/pressed media when they are made - I have only heard such noises on drives when using garbage quality disks though.
If you always use mulleter to correct the security files instead of using the ones you dump yourself, you completely ignore one important thing. The ones in mulleter's db can be uploaded by anyone, all it takes is two identical uploads to make it "legit" to mulleter - and there is absolutely nothing to say that this hasn't been done intentionally by someone with bad or forged data.

Hmm, but surely Verbatims made in Singapore aren't garbage quality disks ...
Is it because I burned them at 2.4x instead of 8x?

So are you suggesting, when making a backup of your Xbox 360 game ... not to use mulleter's db ... but instead, rely on the security files that you've dumped yourself? (which Xbox Backup Creator should take care of?)
