Halo 3 Beta Now Available

Spartans, grab your helmets, click-clack your pistols and strap on your boots, it's time for war. The Halo 3 beta is now available to download (via the retail copy of Crackdown), on the Xbox 360. With official word from Bungie, there's nothing much else to say, finish the fight!

Ok guys, Frankie over at the Bungie forums has posted a response to the beta delay. In an attempt to calm some of you frustrated gamers down who are trying to download it via Crackdown (still have the beta option grayed out), Frankie responded with the following message:

With any luck this will be a short delay. People enetering the Beta through other methods - Friends and Family, Rule of Three and so on, are unaffected.

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today confirmed the multiplayer beta of Halo 3 will debut to audiences worldwide via Xbox LIVE on May 16 at 10pm EST and run through to June 7 at 4:59pm EST.

Welcome to the Bungie Friends & Family Halo 3 Beta!

In order to play the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta, you will need an Xbox 360 with a hard drive and an Xbox LIVE Gold account.

Your beta download code is: *****-*****-*****-*****-*****

This code will allow you to download the Halo 3 Beta to one Xbox 360 console, one time.

Instructions for installing and launching the beta are below:




Turn on your Xbox 360 and sign-in with your Xbox LIVE Gold account

Select “Marketplace” from the Xbox LIVE dashboard

Select the “Redeem Code” option

Enter a beta download code

Once the download completes, navigate to the “Games” blade of the dashboard

Select “Demos and More”

Select and launch the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta!



The initial download may take some time depending on network traffic and your own internet connection. Please be patient.

Please note that the Halo 3 beta only supports Matchmaking play over Xbox Live. You will not be able to play any custom games or play in offline/system link matches. You can, however, play with a friend in split-screen games in the Social playlists.

It seems like too big of a odd for your 360 to red ring while waiting for the halo 3 invite at the same exact time. You either don't own a 360 or are just trying to start a flame war. Either way if your looking to play the big blockbuster exclusive titles coming out this year and next for the xbox 360 then your obviously going to have to own one and sadly get use to the fact that the system does have faults at this current time.

With a majority of those exclusives coming months after the release and if their made and produced by Microsoft you can bet they will have Dx10 and Vista as a Requirment. It's been a long day for a lot of people but we're happy to announce that effective immediately, a title update for Crackdown is available on Xbox Live that will fix the issue that previously prevented you from downloading the beta. The Microsoft team just deployed this fix and when you launch Crackdown you should receive a prompt to download the update.

Please note that it could take up to four hours for your console to receive this update based on various factors. However, the good news is that we're in the clear and Halo 3 gameplay is just over the horizon.

We realize this has been a pain for many and an inconvenience at the very least. Given the circumstances, we've decided to extend the duration of the Halo 3 Beta from June 6th to June 10th at 11:59 PM PDT. So, you lost almost a full day of play today but to make up for it we're tacking on four more days (and a weekend at that).

We apologize for the delay and hardships this issue has caused and hope that it quickly becomes a distant memory clouded by good times playing Halo 3 with your friends.

:D It does work now!!! I'm at 71% almost done downloading. If anyone is having problems do HD Clear Cache. For all you Halo haters go play your ROFM or what ever it is you play. Now is Halo Time!

Restart your box, then do this:

Go to the dashboard.
Go to the system tab
Select memory
Highlight your hard drive
Press Y
Press X, X, LB, RB, X, X
Say yes when prompted to do maintenance on your hard drive. (DO NOT FORMAT YOUR HDD!!!)

This removes all previous title updates and prompts you to redownload new ones.
Load up Crackdown...redownload the patch, and then go to downloads to download the Beta.

No need to do this. This will only make you need to re-download all patches and expansions to games you already have. This was helpful earlier, but don't do this now. Just pop in the game and load up the update. Choose halo 3 beta and start downloading. But damn its slow :p

Here is a trick if you want to download the beta via the dashboard.

Load up Crackdown and start the Halo 3 Beta download. Once it has started, cancel it. Exit the game and go to the Marketplace blade. Select the Account Management option and select Download History. In there, look for Halo 3 Multilayer Beta and select it. Select re-download and there you go.

Yep, I downloaded my version around 9. It's fun, plays a lot more like Halo 1 with Halo 2 weapons then Halo 2. It was fun but everyone playing were spawn killers so I stopped playing after awhile. I can wait another few months. But I'll just say the Beta looks awesome, anyone who says it looks like Halo 2.5 hasn't played the Beta, only seen some Flash video from Youtube. It looks awesome, plays a lot different from Halo 2 like I mentioned above, a lot slower but somehow more intense. lol. It's great. Though the controlls are weird, I couldn't figure out how to reload, I may be incorrect but wasn't it X in the other games? And to swap weapons, it's RB, WTH? And let me just note that it was a problem with Crackdown that kept people from getting the Beta, so Bungie's answer of "It'll be up in a couple hours" was smart because there was nothing they could do about it. The game just couldn't connect to Bungie's servers to do something that the Crackdown devs did wrong. If you go onto Crackdown now, there will be an update that will fix that and the download will show up.

I thought I was having a problem doing it. It's because, despite what I thought, there aren't many people playing it yet. My guess is because the Crackdown owners were waiting for news saying it is up. All you do is go to matchmaker or whatever it's called and it'll continue searching, just leave it and people will join a game with you.

I am not a ps3 fanboy and not a MS fanboy(like u) either. and I did experience most of my 360 problems after the spring update. if u what happened to me happened to anyone else u can bet ur ass they're gonna be mad. I am sending my 360 for repair and I have to pay 130.

I hate fanboysI completely agree with pCeSlAyEr. There are plenty of tutorials on replacing the X-Clamps that cause the problem and the parts are really cheap. Sorry your have to wait now, when you get your replacement back you should consider replacing the X-Clamp though.

DacianScorpion3...I just posted a thread about having a Maxconsole Halo 3 Beta game if you want to check that out. It was "Scorpion3" back in 2002 on Launch of Xbox Live, but since there was nothing out that year except UC, I got rid of live and haven't been able to get my GT back to this day. :(

So that's...8 CMT, right? Sure, I'll be there. I may not have a mic though, I accidentally stepped on it one night. lol. And hey, don't worry about sucking, I do too. I'm great at Split screen or LAN, even won a few State Tourneys but I suck over live, not sure why though.
