Masaya Matsuura, he reponsible for Parappa The Rapper, has said he believes the reason the Wii is outdoing PS3 in Japan is because the console is "too big" for Japanese consumer tastes. "It's too big for the Japanese." He put rather poetically. In addition, Matsuura praised the Wii but said it also presents new challenges for developers.
"Wii is a very good piece of hardware. Many talented people from Nintendo make great ideas for game hardware, of course. Already I've been starting to think about Wii software, but it's very hard sometimes. Because can you keep shaking the controller for hours?

They said that was the failure reason for the xbox1. BS the Japanese are bigots. They don't care if the console is big. Lets complain about the huge IR device for the Wii.

Yes, they have the finesse to respect others space, and can use a wide range of material on their homes, since shooters on Street are not an issue. :)
I have to ask, why does the new mods posts never have working links in them?

No, shooters. Just Sarin gas bombs in the subways.

They cannot figure out the little button labeled "Insert Link". Actually some have figured it out, but they wont share there knowledge with the noobz though.

I don't actually give a **** about the design, I think its fine.
Anyways more to my point, I don't care how a console itself looks, if it works, plays and does the fucking job its intended to do, thats absolutely fine with me

I don't mind the PS3's size, once I realized I could put away my old PS2 and long DVD player. It is quite heavy though.

You are not aware of the sarin gasing in the subways? That was incredibly high profile, plastered all over the news when it happened like 5-8 years ago. A religious cult decided they wanted to bring Tokyo to its knees, so about a dozen operatives acquired a large amount of sarin, which thank god was somewhat crude.. Anyway, they left open containers of sarin liquid (evaporates quickly) in a bunch of trains, and people in the cars were getting sick and passing out, and the trains were stopping in the terminals and then the workers were getting sick and passing out, but because sarin is odorless, nobody knew why. They eventually figured it out, only 12 people died, but many people suffered long term neurological disorders, and many many many people suffered temporary neuroitoxic effects (1000+?) which scared the crap out of them.

That all said, this was definitely an anomaly, and not commonplace on the Tokyo subway. Japan does have one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
And while I'm not in Japan, I do have a small apartment, and even now I am looking at my old Xbox and wondering if I should just throw it out a window because it's visibly taking up like 3% of my floor space. So I can empathize with the Japanese, who would seem to be living in even smaller places than me.

woah - hang on just one minute. Sure the PS3 is big. Much much bigger than a Wii. But then again you need like ten feet of floor space around you to really play a game on the Wii. Although the PS3 is bigger than the Wii console, the play space required to play is quite a lot smaller...

Not quite sure.. generally Wii can go on Living rooms, under any space ( such a small thing ), and people just need to seat or get up from sopha ;) , ground etc. Still a person , two or three is "removable" material...while Ps3 is... not!!:D
BS. what about gamecube? gamecube is smaller than PS2 (old one) but is not selling well in Japan.

Unless you live in Tokyo, then you worry about the Yakuza.
And I thought we knew this? It was Sony's PR that stated the reason no one liked the Xbox was because it was bulky and ugly. Well...the PS3 is pretty much exactly like the Xbox except it's shiny! Then again, remember Pokemon cards? Shiny is good. And besides, Japanese women are the only people who like things that are small...you knew someone was going to go there.

That's different. I have a lot of stuff and too little space.. Right now my PS3 and Wii are on a little shelf. My PS2 and Xbox1 are on the floor because I have no place to put them. Space used for playing Wii is...completely different. It's ok if I take up space in my apartment. The problem is when too many inanimate objects crowd around you.
If I owned another 5 consoles, I wouldn't have enough room on my floor to even play Wii. But if they were all as small as the Wii, I would.

The PS3 is able to stand upright, which in many cases will save a chunk of space. The Xbox couldn't do that. Not gracefully anyway. The 360 manages it with aplomb, but I'm starting to suspect that people in Japan probably think of the 360 as a disc-eating disposal unit for unwanted DVD's.
With this console size debate.. I don't think it's a preference so much as a necessity. For example, I'm in the process of throwing a lot of good, decent crap out of my apartment, and resolving to be much more careful about what I purchase...not for money's sake, but for clutter's sake.
I'd love to hold on to all this stuff, but I simply have no place to put it, and I'd wager my place is still bigger than many apartments in New York or Tokyo. I don't think it's a culture thing so much.. Not for the younger crowd at any rate.

Yes, I agree that Sony did wrong, specially ebcause they are not aiming the Japanese market. ;) And that is fromwhere the good games coems from, but if there is no demand on Japan, .. is an uggly vicious circle. Also on japan space is an issue of Wealth . So, again Ps3 is appealing for the wealthy ones. :)

A. Good point...I had my Xbox verticle after getting a replacement Samsung drive but decided it looked like crap. The PS3 looks like the Xbox does verticly though, still bulky.
B. SOB. You took all my ideas while I was writing a response talking about small ass apartments in NYC or Tokyo. >.<
C. No response on the little penises? Or the holograph phase? lol. Thank God.

sony said last generation that the original xbox was too bulky for the japanese market. now sony released a system bigger then the one they contradicted so this comment came back and bit them in the ass

Sure, But the original XBOX was one ugly mother to look at. The Ps3 is gorgeous to look at..She's curvy, shiny..in my opinion sexy..lol (just like certain women, my wife included! :D :D)
Anyways the real problem in Japan is that most Japanese are Techno freaks, and most probably have at least 2 or 3 other consoles already.
Now Japan is limited in space especially in the cities, Japanese homes are ruddy tiny...and they just have NO space for the Ps3. But the Ps3 maybe big but she's sleek. I guess its just a question of taste thats all. lets not forget that the Ps3 is NOT just a console and she needs to be big in my opinion anyway.

Aye ok Azarial, but don't forget the Ps3 has its power supply internally, not like the Xbox 360's bulky external back pack and trailer lead.
The Ps3 is a much neater machine.
I think there still are hopes for it in Japan...All we need are the games to be released and we're flying high......

Oh, well, indeed Ps3 is better than Xbox on that subject. But 360 has better antialiasing... maybe because games on Ps3 are not optimized for that pipeline yet. Don't get me wrong, i will get a Ps3 maybe when reach a fair price for a console ( is what I need only ) and the games I like ( none of them until now, not even on plans ... Japan is hybernating on Ps3).
