My out of warranty 360 was recently repaired by someone in my area. He apparently replaced the motherboard (made in September 2006) and the dvd drive (Samsung MS28).
I was just wondering if this means that my 360's serial number has changed, as I just found out that in order to read the firmware from the drive, I would need to use the xread command followed by the serial number.

yay, my first post is actually something useful :-D
Well as far as i know, the serial isn't really used during the read process. It just creates dirs acording to the serial and uses them to verify you don't flash the wrong firmware onto the wrong drive.
Anyways just to be sure you can check your serial number on your dashboard.
I've got a german box so i'll just translate the menu names, i hope you can find them.
system -> console settings -> system information
at the top of this page it should display your serial...
