View Full Version : Failed Cyclowiz Install/Pwned solder pad.
So I tried to install my cyclowiz with my limited soldering skills and shitty iron with destroyed tip and tore a solder pad off:

I tried to just flux the brown spot where the solder point used to be and solder onto that but i still get the flashing green light when i power up. I checked with a multimeter to see if any of my connections were bridged but they weren't so i am guessing that my attempt to reconnect with the owned pad didn't work. The wii, however, still plays regular games. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix my horrible install??

Knowing you had limited soldering skills didn't stop you from an alternative solution to quick soldering?

Learning to solder don't take that long, and it's absolutely worth the time.
I got myself one of those 30w cheap irons, and i had a few old broken computer/console parts that i started trying to solder stuff to.
Didn't take long until I could do a quite nice soldering job with my 30w iron, and it was relly wasy to mod my xbox using it.
After that you can just get yourself a better iron/soldering station, with a much smaller tip (0.2-0.4mm) and the Wii shouldn't be to much of a problem.
It will probably be cheaper then getting it modded at a store =)

damn! it looks like a burn victim.
Yeah use wires, i wouldnt trust the wireless option to be honest.
I also think 15w iron is best.

Solution to your problem.....solder a wire from the wiz to the drive chip. follow the leads and use very little solder and a 15w iron if you can.

Get it to a professional or leave it the way it is.
When you (clearly) don't have enough skill, leave it up to people who have.
Yea, thats what I was thinking. I am fairly sure all of the other points besides the one I had the arrow going too are set. What would be the easiest and cheapest place to bring it to to get the wire soldered from the chip to the IC. Has anyone gotten this done this before? I was thinking a PC repair shop. Someone suggested jewler shop. Any ideas?
In retrospect i shouldn't have done the quick solder. I am usually a halfway decent solderer and I was doing fine until i bridged the point i was pointing to in the picture and the point to the right of it...thats where my problems started. But anyway, I don't need anyone to point out how shitty a job I did, i can see the picture too, just lookin for some advice from a seemingly helpful community.
